in stockton, california we have privets (Ligustrum) they grow fast since they are an invasive species but make an excellent hedge and/or tree can be grown with about an 80% growth rate from a cutting just placed in the grown with no hormone. you might have trouble getting them since they are invasive. they survive low 30s here but they also say they cant survive less than 40 so i dont know but they are thick foilaged so you can see through them. and the are easy to shape
