Not really. But also know that just because you are nto dilated now does NOT mean you won;t be in full blown labor in an hour. Dialtion, effacement, station...all of that really is irrelevant until labor has actually begun. Before that it means nothing.

That would be great if there was some way to make yourself dilate. However, as the mom of 4 babies all born past their due dates (by 9 days, 11 days, 5 days, and 7 days), I can assure you that despite my best efforts there was no direct correlation between what I did and when I went into labor. With my 3rd baby, I was dilated for 7 weeks before she was born and had Braxton Hicks Contractions for 3 months yet she still was born past her due date. You can try walking, having sex, eating spicy foods, driving down bumpy back roads, eating pineapple, drinking Castor oil, using nipple stimulation, rolling around on an exercise ball and washing floors on your hands and knees, but in the end unless your body and your baby are ready anyway none of those things are going to work. If you could make yourself dilate, no baby would ever be born past their due date and few women would probably even get to 40 weeks. Being miserable at the end is no fun, but it is normal. Even having a medical induction doesn't always work well if the baby just isn't ready yet plus some women experience hard labors with induction so letting nature take it's course whenever possible is generally better for both mom and baby in the long run.

Hey Marcie B, We are due the same day! I am misarble too and my blood pressure is running high. I go to the doc today and he will decide if I go in the hospital today to be induced or not. This is my 4th pregnancy and I have never gone into labor on my own, 2 weeks ago the baby was 8 lbs and 7 oz, I'm terrified the baby is going to weigh to much to deliver v. and I'll have to have a c-section, but what ever happens happens as long as we both come through it fine. I'm going to do the walking since sex is a big turn off to me right now, lol, and castrol oil is not a good idea unless the doc says ok. Good Luck and I hope we both get through this!

Don't fret. Dilation or lack of dilation is no cause for alarm.
You have up to 41 weeks before induction is necessary--and Pitocin is no picnic. It causes unnatural contractions that can, at times, put your baby into fetal distress needlessly. So, don't opt for induction unless it is a last resort.
If you are not on bed rest, START WALKING right away and keep it up during labor. Did you know that walking during labor decreases your time in labor by 30%??? Use gravity and I think you'll be just fine.
Also, don't get hung up on your "due date", either. It is a best guess and only 5% of women actually give birth on their scheduled due date.
Good luck to you and congratulations.

Girl, I know EXACTLY how you feel! But, I was due 11/20/07 and I'm still not dialated, yet! I go back to the doctor tomorrow for a non-stress test and an ultrasound, but they said they won't induce till at least 10 days past my due date...and even then, I don't think I'll be dialated any! It sucks cause I want to meet my little girl and it seems like she just does NOT want to come out! I've done everything I can think of (except for sex...hubby is deployed)..I've walked, drank castor oil, took HOT showers, etc! Nothing is working so I guess I will just have to wait till she wants to come out...or at least till the 30th!!! Sorry I couldn't help more...I know how you feel!!! Congrats on the baby though, hope your baby isn't as stubborn as mine...LOL!!!

Babies come when they want to and there isn't much we can do to hurry them along. You can walk a lot. That is good for you and won't hurt the baby. In the long run, the baby will come when it is ready, though. The reason they can't induce yet, is because you increase your risk of a C-section. If your cervix isn't ready to dialate, no amount of pitocin is going to change that.
Just be patient. I know it is difficult, but it will happen soon. Best of luck to you.

I'm due Nov 30th and only been dialated at 1 CM for 2.5 weeks now. My doctor is working with me and she wants to be there when the baby comes so she's already scheduled me to be induced Dec 6th.
Try to have sex, because orgasm can make you have contractions and dialate.
Good luck and congrats. Hopefully both our babies will come soon.

Same thing happened to my wife. As they started to induce everything suddenly loosened up, water broke and out came baby. The best thing you can do is relax. Take some bathes...not too hot or you could hurt baby, take a walk if you can. But relax. Its all going to be over before you know it and you will be celebrating baby's first birthday.

Your lil one is comfy!!! LOL!!
Walk and if you can bear it have sex.. Please dont do the castor oil exp without asking your dr.. There are also herbs you can do like raspberry leaf tea but again you must ask a dr first..
If worse comes to worse and you cant take it... FAKE IT!
Go to the er and be miserable, tell them you have been in so much pain, your back, legs, tummy and whatever else. Say you are having contractions, they cant say you werent.. Some woman dont dilate. There is jelly they can insert on your cervix to start the process.. Good luck..
