and i need that for the phone , what is the cheapest way of being able to have both on at the same time - a new modem



is there some sort of adapter you can get for the modem that acts like a multitab - has more than one socket on.

The modem only allows one device at a time to be active you need a router that uses NAT to be able to connect more than one device to the iinternet through your connection.

The phone plug won't work for Internet access, it's used to attach analog phones to VoIP services.

You need a router, it's your only choice. The router supplies NAT, without NAT your SOL.

You can use and of the following, a hub, a internet switch, or a router. The hub is the cheapest and should work just fine.
