I assume you are not setting your PC up as a VPN host but are using VPN software to connect to an outside computer. You need to install the VPN software unless they are using microsoft VPN.
If you need to install external VPN software (like Nortel or Cisco), I recommend installing it under a virtual environment. That is, install VMWARE, and install the new VPN under the new environment. VPN software does not play well with other VPN software and many other packages and if you can isolate it into a virtual environment you will be much better off.

--------------edit to my comments-------------------

VPN hosting software is very costly. There are better ways to connect to your PC. The easiest (with a cost) is go to mypc. You can use windows remote desktop connection but that is somewhat more difficult to setup if you have not done it before. If this is a short term venture, I would invest in 1-2 months subscribing to gotomypc.

Why is a cisco vpn client trying to connect to YOU?

A client connects to a server.

If you are the client you will be provided with the software (ie, the client) from ie, your company to connect to their server

Perhaps you need to figure out exactly what you are doing before posting to a bunch of strangers without enough information?

Good Luck

Depending on who's VPN some require you to download there software.
Others require you to log in to there site and then require a CSID which then requires another log on with a specific username and password issued by the Virtual Private Networks Administrator.

Make sure you configure your firewall/router to accept the connection.
