I didn't want to imply that ALL american women, but that precisely the women who do so are AMERICAN.
And yes,MEN are in this "Catch22"-too,but my "belief in the kindness of women" suffers inexplicably in the face of their point of view/blindeye on this issue.

I'm going to guess you didn't look to see if this question has been on here before because one of these gets posted everyday. The general gist is when a women gets hers done they usually cut off the clitoris. That is comparable to cutting off the head of a mans penis, not just a small piece of skin. With girls that will make sex horribly painful and all around unbearable. With boys they can still have sex and enjoy it. People used to think circumcision was for health reasons. New research proves other wise. Now they don't do that. End of story. If you have a problem because your parents had yours done, talk to them about it.

It isn't all American woman, however, it is most! The woman who gave the 30% circumcized fact is incorrect. In some parts of California 30% may be so but not everywhere else. I believe if parents watched one of these procedures and how the babies are restrained and how they scream, I am sure no one would do it. Especially since even though it is now (finally) recommended to give pain relief many hospitals still don't. OUCH. Babies' oxygen saturation decreases when they are circumcized and this is the best evidence (besides increased heart rate and screaming) they are feeling intense pain. To the woman who said that she really knows about this because she works in healthcare, I literally laughed out loud. Americans have some very weird things going on, what with the extremely medicalized birth (with very bad outcomes in comparison to other medically advanced countries) and this circumcision trend which I hope will one day become obsolete. What I really wanted to say though, and forgive me for such a long answer, is I always felt like men's bits looked bare, stretched, and sort of dried out. When I found out what circumcision actually removes (having never thought much about it before) it was like a lightbulb going off in my head! Not to mention that my husband has this strange piercing-like hole in his skin, somebody must have botched the job. It's just horrible. He never orgasmed during sex for a few years, not to mention that he sometimes has trouble with pain in the tip of his penis. As far as foreskin being unhealthy, if you are sleeping with someone who has vd you are a little less likely to get it if you have been circumcized because there's no moisture for germs to grow (just as there is no moisture for your poor penis!) As far as women go, a vagina is like an open wound and if you sleep with an infected person, you are going to get whatever it is they might have, end of story. Women need to protect themelves, unfortunately this is not a value our country really holds anymore. They would rather just cut off men's private parts.

Why are you so sexist? Why do you say American women when a lot of American MEN believe in that? Also, many American women do NOT think the foreskin is unhealthy. So don't generalize.

Don't just say it's women, many American MEN believe this too. It's stupid though. I can't wait until circumcision goes out of style.

Not all of us buy the propaganda.
Our own son is intact and the "cut rates" are falling in the United States. It's down to only 30% cut here in the western states.

As far as I'm concerned, circumcision is unnecessary as long as parents of the boy teach him from a young age how to properly clean himself and the risks if he doesn't do it.

I agree with you. The public simply was not being given the correct information and was making assumptions based on what was suggested. I don't think any parents agreed to this out of malice but simply because they were given incorrect information and this procedure was also considered the norm.

I've never bought into that, but many have (many american men too). The vast majority of American men are circumcized, but I've heard that trends are changing somewhat.

If I'm not mistaken, female circumcision in third world countries is done to prevent the woman from having pleasure during sex. It's a barbaric way to keep females from wanting to be with anyone other than their husbands when they grow up and get married.
