Or maybe not block it, but just lessen its impact.

A couple of days ago while driving on a freeway in Atlanta, I saw a body of a man who was hit by a truck. I was wondering why traffic was moving slow slowly, then I noticed that there was a lot of rubber-necking. I realize that people often will slow down just to see what happened in the accident, but when I drove past to look too, there was the man dead as a doornail in a very unnatural position. The ambulance had just gotten there, so his body hadn't been covered up.

Anyway, so I can't get this very sad and disturbing image out of my head. I know it's only been a couple of days, but is there something I can do to forget it or minimize it?

I realize that there are people around the world who see horrible things everyday, but I guess being a sheltered westerner, I haven't been exposed. The only dead people I had ever seen were at funerals.

I know what you are going through. I saw a man jump off a building and hit the ground. I will never forget about it, but the image is slowly fading. I basically accepted it for what it was. I thought about the man and what was going on in his life, the people who loved him, and why he did that. Rather than blocking it out I absorbed it and just took it as a hands on lesson about life and death. One day you are here and the next....who knows. Don't waste your life thinking about death, because you are alive now.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is the most powerful tool that I have ever come across to help you to RELEASE this image from your memory. Or more precisely, the emotionally disturbing aspect connected with the image.

It is easy to learn with a free download that is available from

The other thing to be mindful of is that our brain can only HOLD one thought at a time so we can CHOOSE what that is at any given moment. When ever the thoughts or images come in then simply REPLACE them with something more pleasant, like an image of your pet or favorite person or a magestic tree or a movie star. etc...CHOOSE ahead of time what it will be so that you are prepared.

EFT is the best way to go though, in my experience.

You can change the thoughts!!!! If you are not the Master of the mind, you are the slave. Bring in "pleasant" thoughts when those other ones come into the mind. Just remember, You are not what you "think" you are. And like-wise, others are not what you "think" they are. Our world seems so unpleasant because we never only see It, we always see what we "think" the world is!

i'm not sure how you would go about it, but you could try to find out who he was. sending his family a card or small gift might allow you to pass along a bit of that grief in the form of sympathy even if you don't actually share what you saw. otherwise, it just takes time and positive thought.

Try to substitute it with a happy image whenever it comes to you mind...it will lessen over time. Pray for the family of the man...Good luck!!
