ah no, never i can't even picture a straw in a shot glass. tell him to just order martinis.

It doesn't sound normal to me nor have I ever seen it done with shots, but often hear it makes you intoxicated faster when doing it with other drinks. Perhaps he's trying to get buzzed faster, cheaper, or just has an extreme drinking problem.
It's also possible he doesn't like the taste and he uses the straw to put the alcohol to the back of his mouth for less taste.

Well, what is normal?
Ask him if there is a reason why he drinks a shot through a straw. Is it because he thinks he may get a bigger buzz? Is it because he has a sore mouth or teeth and doesn't want the alcohol to come in contact with them?
Ask him why.

He is on the fruity flaming other side. I'd be concerned and question him. That is not normal but I'm sure he does a lot of things which raises your brow. I'd talk with him and say, "why you do that?" "You take shot with straw. Why you do that?" He may defend himself and have a perfectly good explanation....but we all know....."It's not normal." It may be some hidden psychotic serial killer instinct. I can picture it now....a man sitting in a bar taking a shot with a straw....a man walks over laughing at him....he looks over with confusion and walks out the bar. Waits in his car for the patron to walk out of the bar silly drunk....then starts slashing him while laughing hysterically.

I've never seen that before and I like to go out regularly. But I suspect it may have to do with a rumor I have heard that drinking through a straw makes you drunker quicker. Maybe he's trying to get the most bang for his drinking buck!

I have heard if you drink alcohol from a straw you'll get more of an affect.

no man drinks shots thourgh a straw, heck theres no reason for any man to drink any alcohol through a straw
drinking through a straw does not get you drunk faster.

How old is he? If he is old enough to drink alcohol, then it is time to stop using a straw - that's what children do.

Hahaha. That's actually a great idea, I never thought of that. Maybe they should come out with new short straws made for shot glasses.

Not normal but not abnormal either. Shots are meant to be taken like the name suggest. Ask him about it. Maybe he's not comfortable with tipping his head back and downing a drink or he's not aware of how odd it is to you. Tell him you're fine with it either way. :) But to each his/her own!
