I wouldn't necessarily consider your husband to be a racist. I would probably think that he's just a stupid redneck. I don't think that having a confederate flag is the same thing as having a Nazi flag.

The racist connotations about the South were generated by those who controlled, and still control the media in the North. Publishing houses are located in the North. The textbooks, major newspapers, and today’s broadcast centers are in the North.
The 13 colonies began as a Confederation. The Articles of Confederation was their first legal business document.
The re-establishment of the Confederate government in the South resulted in a 5 year existence. That flag represents a nation that lasted about 5 years.
There are many connotations that are attributed to the South that have been propagated by northern journalist which are misleading.
When the 13 colonies broke away from England, ALL 13 colonies enjoyed the benefits of slavery. All 13 colonies persecuted and exploited African slave labor,Native Americans, and Europeans of lower economic classes. The first 2 groups for the most part were more easily physicaly identifiable which made persucution perpetual.
The Dread Scott Decision, 3/5 of a vote compromise from the in the USA Constitution and the hanging of the emancipator John Brown, were all done under the flag of the USA. The Conquering of the Native Americans before, during and after the Civil War was done under the flag of the USA. The confiscation of the Hawaiian Islands was done under the flag of the USA.
The North has practiced and profited from slavery and racism. Wall street was built by African Slave labor, an orphanage housing African American children in New York City was burned down in protest to the Civil War draft. This was done under the flag of the USA.
Perhaps the flag of the USA represents the racist flag...That flag and its variations since the late 1770’s.
Symbols are open to subjective interpretations. Those interpretations are subjective to the references that one selects to admit or omit.

No I wouldn't think it was racist. However some people (mainly northerners), would associate the confederate flag with the old south, which was resistant to change and still using slave labor.
However I believe when people today hang a confederate flag, it just a symbol of the south.

I lived close to Alabama and i'd see the confederate flag more than the american flag! I used to think they were racists but some are just REALLY proud to be southern i guess. I'd personally never fly it because of what it stands/stood for but thats just me...

I would think that he wants to be seen as a redneck. I'm born and raised in the south, and from my experience, most people that display Confederate flags tend to be a little on the racist side...sorry, but thats just my observation.

Like the first person said, I would think they were proud of the South. You can't say that being from the South automatically means you approve of slavery or racism. I think the more important question would be - what type of person is your husband? People that know him would know if he's racist or not. This country is too PC. People spend time LOOKING for things to get offended about. Everyone needs to get a nice, stiff drink, sit back and CHILL OUT.

I wouldn't come to your home or accept invitations to eat at your home. The things that the Confederate Flag represents, tells you alot about the opinions held by the persons that live in the home

I'd think they were a Southerner and proud of it...
Would i assume they're racist? not necessarily. I know that some people hold the confederate flag dear as a symbol of their southern pride, not for racial purposes.
Don't get me wrong though, I've never personally seen a black southerner represent the confederate flag, and there are in fact racist people that believe in the confederate flag as a symbol of pro slavery, and segregation....
but does it automatically mean a person with that flag is a racist? No.

I'm a southern belle and see that all the time. Personally I would not fly the flag so as not to offend others. Does not necessarily mean he is racist but it does project negativity to many blacks. Most poor whites were affected by slavery and being a sharecropper at times was worse than being a slave.
