I don't care much for any kind of movies, whether at home or in theaters. Very few actually grab my attention such that I can pay attention for more than 30 minutes. If there are commercials, I'm gone after the first one. It's really because so few movies actually tell stories anymore, it's all just special effects or emotional drama.
She watches what she wants, I read a book. Give me a Tom Clancy novel over a Tom Clancy movie any day. I'd rather read a short story by James Thurber than watch a TV sitcom. I'd rather see a bad live performance of a high school play than an Oscar-winning movie about nothing.

We like WAY different movies. For me, romantic comedies and documentaries. For him, anything with chase scenes, T&A and explosions.
Regarding compromise, I usually go to the movies alone, with girlfriends or with the kids. When we go together I usually let him pick the movie because I go to lots more than him. It's always a pleasant surprise, tho, when I walk in and he's watching a foreign language film on IFC.... go figure.

I like action/intellectual movies. She likes chick flick type of movies/romantic comedies.
I just end up watching movies by myself when she is doing laundry.

Although there is a broad section of movies we both like, there are also a lot the we disagree on. Basically, my husband is really generous and 99% of the time offers to watch what I want. Because my husband is so generous, I often pick things he would want to watch instead of me. To me, the fact that he is so wonderful makes me want to do the same.

Ahh, interesting question. I'm a grad student, I like intellectual and emotional and artsy movies. I like chick flicks, I like museums, I like plays and ballets...
Hubby likes X-Box, he likes action movies, horror films, paint-balling, etc, etc.
We are so different and so perfect for each other. How we make the movie thing "work" is we simply take turns every other time is one of our choice. It is simple and it works.

We both pick a movie to rent and we both watch them together. Whether we like the movie or not.
Awe, the things we do for love...............
(we don't go to the theater much unless it is a family event, then we see what the kids want to watch. Theaters are too damn expensive anymore)

I like chick flicks and he likes those annoying movies with lots of fighting in them.
We both like suspense movies (I think that it what they are called - like "Kiss the Girls"). We just watch those when we are watching something together and watch the other types if we are watching something without the other person.
