my friend told me that a man was arrested outside Wall Street not so long ago for reading the Bill of Rights on the curb in a loud voice. apparently he was charged with disturbing the peace or a local noise ordinance. anyone heard of this or have any further details?

oh, and don't just say "its not true" without source or support, that makes you look foolish and doesn't help any.

maybe you are confused about the purpose of Y answers. i know that many like you think that it is a cite to air opinion exclusively, however, the ACTUAL intent of the site is for people to ask questions about things they do not have information on in order to get more informed answers. i know this might be hard for some people to understand but please try to. thanks for you noncontributory remarks.

Remember "Free Speech Zones"? Its possible. The man may have been arrested because he was asked to move and refused, but as I am completely unfamiliar with this story I have no idea if its true or not. If he was arrested, it probably wasn't just for reading the Bill of Rights - he may have been making a real nuisance of himself for all we know, and this might not have even happened - another urban myth.

No matter how patriotic one does not have the right to disturb the peace of others. If he had gotten a permit and had an organized crowd I am sure they would have allowed him to do so. Maybe they should have like the English do, in a popular park have a "soap box" area where people can come and speak on any subject. As soon as one person is done someone else speaks. If people wish to gather and hear the speaker, fine, if not, the speaker speaks anyway and people just pass by.

Just because he was reading the Bill of Rights doesn't give him the right to disturb the peace. He sounds like a lunatic.

I live/work very close to the financial district. It wasn't in any of the NY papers nor did I hear about it through the rumor mill.

Even if it is true, I am sure the arrest is more about delivery than content.
