benefit scroungers, etc etc, would be vastly reduced or even disssapear if we JUST SCRAPPED BENEFITS?

Would so many young Chav women be prepared to bring up little Britney, Diamonique and Chelsea if they didn't get a free house and a good income?

Would asylum seekers be so quick to come here if they didn't get free housing, income, etc.

Would chav scroungers suddenly find that they are not depressed and their back is miraculously cured if noone gave them any money?

Would the housing crisis be at least some way halved if honest hard working people were given priority for council places?

I may be wrong, but I don't think so. I think the benefit culture is the cause of many problems in this country, what do you think?

Outcrop and X jaydii, it DOES mean the system needs to be scrapped. Measures to curb cheating have been tried many times before and failed. The answer is simple, scrap it all completely.

The money saved could then be pumped into giving medical or NHS care to anyone who needs it, (this happens now, but is grossly underfunded and inadequate) including McMillan/community support nurses, etc to carers and so on.

The elderly can get much better pensions.

New family's will not get benefits, you should make a responsible decision to have a child when you can afford it, if you can't make sacrifices. People shouldn't pay for your choice. I do agree however that new families should get tax breaks or similar so that one or both parents can take time off work/half hours, etc to support their family.

Hee, hee, good idea. I've been to countries where there is no social security and boy it is different. First of all people get up real early in the morning 'cos they got to do something to get some food for that day. No hanging around drinking lager all day and putting bricks through OAPs windows. A lady can have 3 kids with 3 different men so long as she doesn't mind begging at the side of the road. Saw this in Chile and the Philippines. Strangely enough, the people in both those countries are much nicer than here. What we should have is really good unemployment pay for 6 months and then nothing !! That should concentrate people minds.

Yes Contraception.. seems to almost be forgotten... years ago there were not benefits and women who got themselves up the duff without a husband/partner etc had to live in the family home and in many cases the women's own mothers had to bring up said child and most times pass it off as her own.
There seems to be little thought for the consequences of actions these days because the state picks up the pieces... and what almost shocked me to the core was hearing from my friend who is a secondary school teacher who when she asked a class what ambitions they had for the future some actually said that they planned to have a baby asap and get a council house ... and they were serious...

i do understand your point and in some ways i agree with your observations.

however if we did what you want to do you would simply ruin the economy and the social structure of the UK.

1st thing is there are simply not enough jobs for everyone.
2nd there is not enough money in the country for good paying jobs either
3rd many people who need benefits legitimately would be put out in The cold with out a good reason.
4th

the nation voted for a social system years ago so that people would all have a Fair chance and a decent way to live. had you been there,
you would have known what it is like to loose your job cause you are hurt or your company goes bankrupt and closes, now your not be able to pay rent or buy food.
then when you try to get help in comes a group of people who make you sell all you have for nothing to pay your bills then when that is done and you have nothing left they kick you out, kids and all.

its not the system of the social fund you mad at its the fact your working and others are not and they have more than you.

what is the solution. get off you but and vote , get rid of stealth tax and rampant immigration, vote out council tax. start a reform of government.

Just b/c some folks exploit the system does not mean the system needs to be scrapped.

For example, when you get a flat tire, do you walk away from your vehicle and simply buy a new one or do you address the problem?

Further, the costs incurred to the remainder of of social structure from not providing necessary services WHEN NEEDED, would outweigh the expenditures we currently incur. I would suggest finding ways to make programs become more effective is much better than raising ones hands in defeat.

i agree that everyone that is physically able to should have to work if they want money. There ARE enough jobs for everyone, just that those who doss around in school and don't work or get any qualifications at or after school still think that they should have the same kind of lifestyle that those that did work hard and get on, enjoy.

honestly.. i think you should only get benefits if you are disabled (and unable to work) or are a carer of a disabled child/adult, as this can be costly..
Or if you are pregnant, ONLY if you normally work.. and for like.. 3 months after you have given birth, and under them circumstances only!
