TOUGH GUY, I am a law-abiding citizen who hasn't even had a traffic ticket within the last 7 yrs, lives in a nice suburban area has noticed what the other law-abiding posters above you have noticed.

I think they are assigned a specific area of town to cover, and they drive around, because if they are visible it is a deterrent to criminal activity. They also catch more people violating traffic laws if they are out driving around, rather than sitting in a donut shop. They could possibly be very close to a crime in progress, or to assist another police officer.

That being said: Down here in "Lower Alabama" AKA the Florida panhandle, I think they are our looking to arrest teenagers, and especially young black males. They will find any excuse to search their cars for drugs, etc... It seems they don't want kids to succeed down here, they just want to catch them doing one bad thing, so they can get them in the system, lock 'em up and throw away the key. But they really do pick on young men. I have seen it first hand. I have a 20 year old son, who is a good kid.

Funny.

They are trying to protect people and uphold the law. So I guess a "victim" would be the right word. If I were a "victim" of assault, I would definitely want them there.

Nobody likes the police until they need them. I think some people should give them the respect they deserve as opposed to trying to demonize them. Then again I am by in large a law abiding citizen.

Dear VA Girl!!!!
The Police are meant to guard us and the society at large. So when ever they are moving , either it was a routine inspection drive or meant for some specific crime work. In either case we can be normal and not alarmed as long as we are law obeying citizens.

We can feel strong and secured when Police are doing their duty well.

They are looking for people who are doing things they shoud'nt be doing and very well may save your life. Without them you would have anarchy. Disrespecting the police may very well help you to wind up in jail so don't do it. Thery have families and friends and many have lost innocent lives to street people and thugs so who's side are you on anyway?

GLAD YOU ARE A LAW ABIDING CITIZEN. i WAS NOT TRYING TO SAY THAT YOU WERE'NT ONE.
