You can basically be search for no reason, detained for no reason, wiretapped for no reason and possibly even tracked via your cellphone for no reason.

if the courts were able to hear cases regarding these warrentless wiretaps, searches, and seizures then no they would probably rule against many of this administrations uses of it.

that's the insidiousness of it. built into the patriot act is a clause that makes it impossible to challenge the law unless you are a subject of such a wiretap, search, or seizure. that's why the ACLU and other groups have their hands tied. since the government doesn't have to inform a person that they have been a subject to such acts (suspension of the right to know ones accuser) then how would a person ever know that they were a target of these illegal government acts in order to challenge them in court?! it is a perfect and purposeful catch 22 which was engineered to give the executive branch unilateral power in such cases and to circumvent both constitutional liberties and the authority of the judicial branch.

No, but the Patriot Act has chewed it up, vomited it out, eaten the vomit, and re-vomited the vomit formerly known as the Fourth Amendment.

And, no, reasonable suspicion isn't needed. Only the CLAIM of reasonable suspicion is.

Astonishingly, there are actually very few safeguards guarnteeing "privacy" to Americans. In 1986, federal laws were created to limit wiretapping as illegal unless a court order was granted. The irony here is that someone CAN wiretap you, and, if transcribed by hand to paper, perfectly legal.

The Patriot Act erodes the limits placed on some federal agencies, but really, privacy is NOT, for the most part, nor really valued by law too much!

Not exactly the law still has to have a reasonable suspicion,
do you think homeland security would waste time just randomly going from house to house looking at peoples stuff.

even the sneak and peek searches are done on an as needed basis.

Yeah. God forbid should we take measures to stop terrorists before they strike. It is impossible to wiretap and bug every single American. They only bug terror suspects that show signs they are tied with terrorism. Beyond that, it is not the evil thing many liberals try to show that it is because they are afraid they are going to busted on calling their drug dealer or other shady business calls they make.

Yes, it feels that way. Are we becoming the police state or what? I've been invaded a couple of times without a warrant and although nothing came of it, the 4th Amendment might as well not have existed! Nobody seems to care.
