Im due January 4th and confused about where to have the newborn sleep. I have a baby safety class in 2 weeks, but am getting the babies room ready now so would like to know what I need ready.

I have a crib and a pack n play that has a basinette. I assembled the basinette and the hooded part kept coming un-velcroed. It's dissapointing.

But anyways, where should the newborn sleep & for how long? When is it safe for baby to sleep in crib?

Newborns can sleep in a crib as soon as they come home. However, many parents (myself included) find it more convenient to have the baby in a bassinette close to their bed for the first few weeks or months. This way you don't have too far to travel for middle-of-the-night feedings. This worked well with my daughter as I was able to fall asleep faster. Some small babies may also feel overexposed by being in a big crib all by themselves. Since our daughter was premature, we decided that a smaller bassinette would be more intimate and probably help her sleep better.

If you do decide that a basinette is best for you, I would recommend that you not use a travel bassinette. Rather, look at borrowing or purchasing a used "moses basket" or other bassinette (see the attached links to babiesrus). You may prefer to have your baby sleep in a crib if you are a very light sleeper. Otherwise, you'll be waking up with every single sniffle, sneeze, and grunt (which babies do a lot of).

Best of luck!

It is a good idea to let the baby sleep in the bassinet by your bed side. This is good because babies choke and you could never know in the other room. Always keep a night light on also just until the baby is about 2-3 months and it you feel comfortable by then you can then let the baby sleep in the crib. There is really no desired age for sleeping in the crib, it is based on how you feel. Goodluck and Congratulation on being a mom!

I hope that information can help you.

My baby when she was a newborn slept in a basinette right by our bed. Then she co-slept with us for a while, then she moved into the basinette with the pack and play. Then to the crib and co-sleeping when she wakes up early AM until she gets up. As far as the crib goes you can put baby in there whenever you feel comfy. Most parents wait three months or until the nites get a bit better. Co-sleeping is awesome if you do it the safe route. If you are planning to breastfeed it will be handy for you. Best of luck to you!

The baby can sleep in any of those places, as long as you don't use big pillows, or anything suffocating around the face. Your baby will have its own schedule, he or she will have you on a schedule, not the other way around. The baby will wake up every three to for hours when its Hungry. The doctors say to feed the baby between every three to four hours, but don't be stupid like I was and set an alarm! lol The baby will wake up when they are hungry, the wont starve.

Typically a newborn sleeps in a bassinet. My daughters pediatrician recommended that we have the bassinet set up in our bedroom for the first 3 months so she can sleep close to us. She also informed me that this can indeed help prevent SIDS because when baby hears mom breathing it reminds them to breathe in their sleep. She said that after 3 months baby can be transitioned into a crib in their own room.

It is always safe for a baby to sleep in a crib. When my kids came home from the hospital, I kept them in a bassinet, next to my bed, for a few weeks. It was just easier to get them for breastfeeding during the night. I had an old hand-me-down bassinet basket that worked great. i would take off the hooded part of the one you have and make it work.

If you want to put your baby to sleep in 20 seconds you must get the "Instant Baby Sleep" MP3 sound track. Here is their official web-site: http://www.instantbabysleep.net

The sound track gently produces energy over the full human hearing spectrum with an embedded pulse that gently eases the brain to the Alpha state well known for drowsiness and sleep induction.

Mine sleep in the crib, right from the start. It's safe from day one - but do whatever you're most comfortable with.

Some people are more comfortable having baby in a bassinet in the master bedroom at first - it's up to you if you want to, but not necessary at all.

Do Not let the baby sleep with you!!! Use the bassinet, keep it either close to your bed or if you have a nursery set up then use the baby monitor. You can use the crib also, newborns don't move around much so you should be fine either way. Just remember the sleeping habits you start with the baby are the sleeping habits they will get use to. So let the baby have his/her space and you get yours. Good Luck and God Bless.

Try to put yourself in the child's position.

Where has the baby been for the past nine months?
Inside mom.

The birth process is stressful enough for both baby and mom. Why would you want to put her through even more unnecessary stress and deport her to another room?

The baby is accustomed to mommy, and wants to continue to feel mommy's presence. Another room would be the equivelant of abandonment from an infant's perspective.

We co-slept with both of ours. It was easier on everyone, and baby could breastfeed whenever she wanted.

More importantly, she constantly felt the warm reassurance of mommy, that she is accustomed to, not the coolness of no one.
