The bill is: S 1959 "Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007, If this bill is passed, and becomes law, your words and actions could be considered terrorism. S 1959 EVISCERATES FREE SPEECH, and empowers the govt. to declare ANYTHING they deem an "extremist belief system", instantly make you a terrorist, resulting in stripping of US citizenship, torture, and/or execution, with no habeas corpus rights, no ability to challenge even in the US Supreme Court.
Please call your senators and ask them to vote no on S1959. and please spread the word. This is an emergency. I have already called both my senators, and so I know this is real.

Crabby blind guy...I just called both my senators this morning, and the lady who answers the phone at one of the offices asked me if I know what the bill does, and I said "It takes away our free speech", and she did not correct me, she just said "Okay!" So what does that tell you?

Informat..., if I am greatly exaggerating things, then why did the lady who took my call, not correct me when she asked me if I know what the bill does, and I told her that it takes away our free speech?

All these deceptive violation of a system will keep on coming on as long as people allow it to come. The slower people react against this, the harder it will become to stop it.

When Hitler started to gain popularity to put his wicked system in place in the 30's, a few Germans were bright enough to recognize what was going to happen. But the vast majority reacted the very same way most US citizens react today, telling them they were crazy, overreacting and creating false alarms. The concentration camps were known facts only a few year after the war.

It sad that people associate a full thrust in politicians and thrust them enough to let then totally decide on their future and their childrens future. It sad to see a high percentages of US population seeing anti-Americanism in people only fighting for their freedom and liberties. I am personally American, was born in America (Canada), always fight for my liberties when any attempt to cheat them is made by my government, and anyone should see it as true Americanism. I avoid the US right now, I truly think it is going too far right now, while I like you guys and have lots of friends all over the US, I believe the USA are at the present time leaving America, just like Venezuela and Bolivia, to replace it by a very bad government. I pray God to help you and make people open their eyes and show some true Americanism and fight to keep what was so hard to gain at first. Hopefully, the US will come back to America and show the example to everyone as to how "We the People" still prevails.

They have no right to concoct such a bill. They have no right to create a study of such an unConstitutional idea. Just who would decide exactly what is "Violent Radicalization."? Just what is Homegrown Terrorism? We already have laws against blowing up buildings, etc., so why is anything else needed?

This type of bill, whether passed or not, is an abomination. It proves that someone, somewhere in government, is having ideas of stifling freedom, curtailing liberty and making a mockery of our Constitution.

There comes a time when Americans had better sit up and take notice. The Patriot Act should be repealed. Bills like this should be tagged and whoever is dreaming them up should let his feelings be known, so that his constituents can make sure he or she loses the legislative seat.

We have sat idly by and allowed these inequities to become the norm. I notice that many posters here shrug, claim exaggeration, etc. Like the Germans who just failed to see the cattle cars stuffed with human beings chugging by, Americans had better wake up. If that is an "extremist belief system," so be it!

This is really scary indeed and thanks for bringing this very important message to our attention. Yes this creeping fascism has gone far enough. What people fail to realize is that even if it is NEVER used they should NEVER have this kind of power at their disposal in our government. You are against democracy if you think otherwise. If these bills and executive powers aren't kept in check we will no longer be a free nation.

The really scary part is what if the House and Senate pass this bill like they've passed everything else. I am afraid that if this pattern continues there will be a much dreaded but possibly needed revolution in America. It could very well happen. People are talking and the government keeps trying to pass bills that discourage and make it illegal to voice your opinion. Maybe they fear the American citizens WILL revolt and this being the reason for silencing dissent.
You and I and a few others know why the government is taking these precautions too. This was all predicted years ago when social, economic, and political globalization first began and it looks like the theories were correct. NWO is just around the corner.

While I always appreciate (and generally agree with) your posts on this site, I took the opportunity to read this particular bill and found that it doesn't (yet) contain provisions to strip citizenship, torture, deport, or anything.

I don't doubt for a minute that they'll try that too, or that if Bush could get an Enabling Act passed he would love to. The good news is that Americans are waking up, and are on the whole glad that Bush is about to go away.

All this particular bill does is empanel a commission to study and prevent "violent radicalization", which they define as "use, planned use, or threatened use of force or violence by a group or individual to promote the group or individual's political, religious, or social beliefs."

In other words, the US government wishes to reserve the right to use ideologically-motivated violence for itself.....

The Bill just makes it easier and clearer. Everything that the bill does can already be done under Executive Orders and the Patriot Act.

Its unlikely it will fail--look at how many people support those two gross abuses of power. Go for it though-lets try to stop this crap.

Just remember if you speak out against it now you can be declared a terrorist once it passes.

The others are correct. It is a bill which sets up a commission that will study how to spot "radicalization" and "homegrown terror". Although it sounds benign on the surface, it made my hair stand on end. It has already passed the House by a wide margin. We already have laws on the books to deal with these sorts of things, so I don't think a whole commission is necessary. All the government needs to do is go to UK, Canada, and Australia on fact finding tours and junkets to study these things. Another thing that concerns me is according to a site listed by Hi, the Rand Corporation was backing this bill. In the source it says:

RAND CORPORATION INFLUENCE

Brian Michael Jenkins, Rand Corporation’s so-called Counterterrorism expert, testified on the Violent Radicalism hearings.

Jenkins is credited by Rand in the 1960s, of focusing in on the insurgencies in Vietnam and Cambodia, on Vietnamese military institutions, and on the styles and techniques of conflict. Drawing parallels between the rise of urbanization in the war in Vietnam and trends taking place in other parts of Asia and Latin America. The theory of guerrilla warfare as a strictly rural activity was being challenged as the guerrillas were taking their struggles to the cities. Jenkins outlined a five-stage process by which urban guerrillas could take over a city, he was able to make recommendations for government countermeasures. In his book on terrorism Jenkins says “In their international campaign, the jihadists will seek common grounds with leftist, anti-American, and anti-globalization forces, who will in turn see, in radical Islam, comrades against a mutual foe.”

Also of note a Rand study "Trends in Terrorism" Chapter 4 on homegrown terrorism – ADVOCATED SPECIAL ATTENTION TO ENVIRONMENTALISTS, ANTI-GLOBALIZATION ACTIVISTS, AND ANARCHISTS AS POTENTIALLY NEW TERRORISTS in the making. (emphasis mine)

Anarchists are a threat here? Get real! So, it sounds to me as if this bill is intended as a way to study how the government can usher in the thought police. If you lean a little too far to the left in your politics, you better be very scared.

If this passes we're another step closer to having a 'Totalitarian' government.

I'd be more concerned with a bill that is being introduced that will make it a crime for us to 'spank' our children. If the government can take away a parents' right to discipline his/her child, then it might as well raise the child. While it's at it, might as well pass a law that requires us to have a license to get pregnant.

A democrat introduced this bill and it was rumored to be written by the Rand Corporation. Call your senators this is the end of anyone who disagrees with the government.

By the way this is sitting on the desk of that traitor Joe "I serve Israel Before America" Lieberman

This is something that the people should be able to unite together against regardless of political party.

For all the "nothing to hide" Republicans, do you realize how quickly this could be used against gun owners? People who embrace the Constitution are already labeled "kooks" and "extremists" and the simple act of gun ownership could be politically defined as a "threat of violence."

This bill is like a checkmate against the power of the free population to express ideas and reject our increasingly totalitarian government.

We have to end this now, because if we don't, the next generation won't have a say in the matter.
