Are you sure it was a rat and not a mouse?
Some rats are as big as small cats and would put a up good fight.

You're joking about the funeral right?
Having said that some rats are probably smarter than some cats and have just as much a right to live as any other creature.

Oh no. That's not a dead rat, that's a fresh kill. Your cat has done its JOB and brought the finished product into your sight as a show of appreciation for your affection and love. When your cat is not looking, dispose of the rat - toilet if small, or garbage bag if large - as they can get rather nasty over time, especially with your HUNTER toying with it and chewing on it. Congrats to the tabby! And congrats to you for having such a fine "mouser!" Do the Dead Rat Happy Dance.

Toss it into your woods or something. It's a rat. If you give it a funeral, it won't be the last. Not worth the effort.

Whatever you do, don't touch the rat with your bare hands as rats carry diseases.

You could either bury it or burn it, but dont make a fuss over it, as your cat will probably bring you many more rats in the years to come.

And BTW, dont scold your cat if it brings you another dead animal - it is simply trying to please you.

Take it to the police station and claim the reward, I think its 25p and buy the cat a squeaky toy

or give it a burial as everything Including Rats has the right to live and die of old age

Bag it and bin it ... (flushing is not regarded as acceptable these days as it could encourage the other rats into cannibalism ..)

NB. Your cat must be well fed .. mine only leaves the tails ...
