Two weeks paternity coming up soon. I'm British and my American fiancee is only getting a max of 6 weeks unpaid, America really doesn't like it's employees.
My sister had a year off.

One year (living in UK and it's EU legislated - hoorah!). Then I went back 3 days a week using up my vacation days, then 4 days a week. All the vacation is used up at the end of the year so I am quitting! Yea! Get to be a SAHM again! Bit scared though because it's the first time since I was 18 that I won't have my financial independence.

I just had my baby 3 weeks ago and I DO NOT want to go back to work!!! I know that I will eventually have to because I am a waitress who is currently in school (which seems like is taking forever!!), no maternity leave! I think that the norm is 6 weeks. I fear that I will be broke because I couldn't imagine leaving my baby with anyone right now or even 3 weeks from now. Oh well--I can handle being broke and happy!

I'm due with my first on Valentine's day, and I'll probably stay home with him for at least the first year. I'm not going to be cooped up in the house, though. I've got a bi-monthly "date" with my mom, which helps me keep my sanity, and there are alot of things to do around my house. I can't wait until Jr. is old enough for me to introduce him to the park around the corner!

after my 1st i went back after 4 1/2 months-(6 week leave plus, extended family leave). and after my 2nd i was going to go back after my 4 1/2 months and on the night before i was going to go back i decided i wasnt going to. i took a 3 year break! and now i work really part time 15-20 hours for a medical executive who allows me to bring my kids with me to work if i want to. i have a huge office so there is tons of room for the kids to play if they have to come with.

My first pregnancy, I stayed home for 6 weeks, which is when my disability ran out. Then the second one, I stayed home for 4 months thanks to the Family Medical Leave Act. It was unpaid, so I had to use all my vacation and sick pay from my employer. If you can afford to do so, you can stay home for up to 4 months and your employer has to keep your job open.

I went back to work a week after I had my daughter. I didn't want to, but I didn't have a choice. I was a waitress, and money was, well...gone. So I did what I had to. Hopefully this pregnancy I'll get my full six weeks.

My home is my work so I guess you would have to say I returned the next day.
