Mike...Do you mean when a band performs a song by a well known artist? Yeah, that's totally legal. Or at least I see bands on YOU TUBE doing it all ;the time. Are you in a band?

While a song cover is a copyrighted image, and the owner could prevent you from posting it, normally it is covered under what is called "fair use". That means that you are not costing the owner any money by posting the cover. (If people want the album, they still have to buy it. Having the cover does them no good). So copyright laws do allow you to do that.

And 99.9% of the time, the owner will not object. It is free publicity for them. Unless you write a bad review to accompany the picture or make some kind of degrading joke out of it.

You can post album covers without violating their rights
