jj It should be Legal, at least at the federal level. Whether states legalize it as well, should be left up to them. This is what the constitution dictates and allows for. Everyone NEEDS TO GO OUT AND VOTE for RON PAUL this january and february in your states primaries. He actually a legit candidate that would legalize marijuana at the federal level. If he wins the primaries, theres a good chance he could win the presidency next fall and there will be a lot of happy marijuana users out there.

Alright, I'm a recovering tobacco addict, a semi-alcoholic, I smoke weed and do a variety of other recreational drugs.
Of all the things I do, I can fairly say that marijuana is the least worrisome thing. When I'm smoking tobacco, I'm endangering my life, shortening it by large amounts at a time, seeing as how I used to chain smoke. When I drink alcohol there goes my liver.
Now alcohol and tobacco are not only extremely dangerous, but also very addictive. I find it quite funny to think that these two things are also very legal.
I've used marijuana for a variety of uses also. Calm down after a fight I've had with my significant other; to help myself to feel less naucious when feeling ill; and simply to just relax. Now, these alone are small things to use it for, but in the long run, are things many people around do use it for.
Furthermore, I have experiance with drugs a lot more powerful and dangerous then marijuana. Many of you here likely know of E. Well, think about it, when there are drugs out there like E why be so worried about a mediochre drug like marijuana.
Marijuana isn't dangerous and is thrown highly out of proportion. Having it illegal isn't going to stop people from using it, because honestly, it's quite easy to come by if you have the right sources. By making it legal you have a better chance of helping people to cut back on the amount they smoke just because they don't get the joy of sneaking around and doing something they know they shouldn't.
Now, on yet another side of this particular debate, you have to see the fact that millions of dollars are put into keeping marijuana illegal, and keeping caught 'convicts' in prison for being found with it. This money could easily be put to better use such as your childrens education, or catching pedeophiles. Think about it, why waste money on such a useless cause when it could be put forth to more appropriate uses.
Should marijuana be legalized? Yes, it most definately should.

Debatable. There are pros and cons to it. Good side is once legalized, it can be controlled by the government. Thus it's standardized, weaker and there is another income for the economy. Bad side is, something that kids really shouldn't be using becomes more readily accessible, something some adults shouldn't be using is again, easily at hand and lastly, the morality of it. I'm not saying using it is wrong. What I am saying is the government knows they can't to save face. If for all of this time, they are saying how bad it is only to turn around and legalize it, tax it and control it as their own. They can't do it. Because if they do, they know it will only give us the image that if we complain long and hard enough about an issue, they'll allow that to. Which opens the door for legalizing more serious recreational drugs.
financially, it would be a brilliant move if controlled properly, but in reality, it would never and could never come to be.

For sure.
I would like to point a few things out to people who think that marijuana is some terrible drug corrupting peoples minds and destroying our society.
First of all, these people probably have never smoked marijuana. However, on a more serious note, people need to realize that it is absurd that alcohol is legal and marijuana is not. Statistics show that there is a large correlation between drinking and and domestic violence, assault, rape, and other violent crimes. On any given night out at the bars, you are more likely to see more fighting between drunk people than between stoned people. Also, drunk drivers endanger far more lives than any marijuana related mishaps. Also, if you have any experience with illegal drugs, you would know that marijuana is typically not associated with addictive drugs such as cocaine, heroine and methamphetamines, which are often taken in tandem. It should also be noted that Marijuana has one of the lowest correlations with acts of violent crime.
Marijuana is probably one of the most harmless substances out there, and yet it is demonized by ridiculous T.V. commercials and the general public, and even outlawed.
We also need to realize that we have limited space in our prisons and incarcerating non-violent offender for stupid s*** like possession of small amounts of marijuana is costing tax payers millions of dollars, and is putting more pressure on the penal system and prisons which are stuffed beyond capacity. (I need not go into the implications of this. In a few years from now, it is very possible that prison riots could become much more common if we do not work harder at keeping only those who truly deserve to incarcerated in jail.)
In addition, cigarettes are completely legal and kill more people per year than all other drugs combined. Strange.
Why is it then that cigarettes and alcohol are legal and marijuana isn't? Despite the fact it is obvious that cigarettes and alcohol have far more social problems associated with them than marijuana? It is all very political. Tobacco and alcohol industries have a prolific history in this country. Marijuana does not. As a result, tobacco growers and companies, as well as distillers have large and powerful lobbyist groups. In addition, other industries, like paper, have large lobbyist groups as well. Hemp can be grown more cheaply than trees and be used to make paper and a multitude of other products. It can also be used to make textiles. Keeping marijuana illegal is a good way to find a reason to make hemp illegal, since it can now be said that the only reason you cannot grow hemp is because you could use it to disguise marijuana plants.
Because marijuana is pretty much harmless to others, IMO it should be the persons lifestyle choice. I personally could never do it because I would be too lazy, but by legalizing it, we could
1) tax it to pay for social programs that could help people who want to quit.
2) stop illegal drug traffic, or at least focus on trafficking of other more serious and addictive drugs, such as cocaine.
3) costs would go down.
4) marijuana is great for medicinal purposes.
5) keep non-violent offenders out of prison, and keep violent offenders in prison so that our communities become safer for all.
There is still a lot of progress to be made, but it is good to see that many parts of the U.S.A. are seeing this issue in a more progressive light, such as CA, CO, and surprisingly, even TX.

Sure, It wont make any more people use it. Look at Prohibition, It probably didn't cut down on the use of alcohol. Make it legal and collect the tax on it, so we can use the tax money to treat the users later.

Yes.
The positive things that come from it far outweigh the negative.
Also, compared to the legal drugs we have on the market it is completely harmless.

everything which does not harm others should be legalized, as long as the consumer is adult (he is making a decision on his own judgement), who the hell are others to judge what is good or bad for that person
