Darfur is far away, and many people in this country hadn't even heard of it until people started talking about how bad it is over there. If we have never heard of a place, and we have no idea who lives there, or even really where it is, it's hard to develop too much sympathy for what might be happening there.
The geography that I learned when I was in school is very out of date now. I have no idea which country became what is now Darfur, and I have no idea what the problems are in that country. I have no clear idea whether in fact these people are Muslim or if that is the problem. One answer said that it is a Muslim on Muslim problem, so nobody cares. I don't think that is true. I think that most Americans care a great deal when violence and genocide occur anywhere in the world, but as other people have said, we don't know enough about it to feel that we can contribute anything useful.
It is amazing that we know so little about what is going on in the world when we live in the information age, but the fact is, that what we learn about in the news has been screened by someone or some group, who has a secondary gain to keeping us ignorant.
I wonder who, and I wonder what they think they have to gain.

Yes, I agree. The world is a cold place.
Well, anyone that has been paying attention to Sudan over the last few years, before it got politically trendy to speak out, will tell you that the Islamic bunch that is now commiting slow genocide in the pagan west of Sudan (Darfur) was doing the exact same thing in the Christian south of Sudan 5-7 years ago.
Thw cold, cruely world paid absolutely no attention to the plight of the christians, and now the killing and starvation continue today to the wretched pagans.
And chrisyains world-wide know that the religious biased goody goodies that allowed the fist tragety are now sooo concerned when it comes to non-chritians?
Give me a BREACK AND TO H__L WITH dARFUR AND THE LEFTIST SIMPS.

Unfortunately just like the Rwandan genocide back in "94..there is no threat of resource or threat against this country.
In fact the Clinton administration appealed to the U.N. to withdrawal U.S. troops from the peace keeping force that was sent there.
Hilary promised that the world would put a stop to anymore genocide attempts and the U.S. would be the 1st to do so....there still has been no question posed to the candidates regarding Darfur.

So what do you want them to do about the Sudan ?
Invade and kill everyone ???
Nope, can't do that, then that might make the American invasion of Iraq more legitimate.
The steps the world has taken, after the american invasion of Iraq, has pretty much made it impossible, for anyone to to ever interviene in situations like Darfur.
Europe's leftest, have basicly said, no use of force, no matter what the reason.
So they have washed thier hands of the rest of the world.
Which leaves only America.
Now I have heard some leftest in america, say the US should unilaterally intervene in Darfur,
But wait, we did that in Iraq and they called Bush a war criminal, now they want him to do it in Darfur ???
But to put it bluntly, :
Europeans only care about europeans, unless it is anti US.
Africans only care about africans
South americans only care about south americans.
The Chinese only care about the Chinese.
Why else do you think none of the above, have done anything about Darfur ?

It's not that we don't care but we have so much on our plate right now. The war, inflation, Trying to make ends meet . Bush talking about world war 3,with Iran, And we all know he is stupid enough to try it. Bush has us in such a mess with all the middle east. We shouldn't have went to war and stretched ourselves so thin. We should have concentrated on Afghanistan, and Darfur, from the get-go. But now what do we do? No one wants to think about the horror that goes on there because, we don't have the man power right now to do much about it , This is where other countries need to help pick up the slack.

Becasue the USA has already been involved in its "Darfurs' --remember Somalia and Bosnia under Clinton. And the fact we are already involved in a war with Islamic-Fascists in Iraq and Afganistan. American and world opinion wont stand for another little intervention like the one in Somalia. Let the UN do its "real" job for once but they wont! They are too busy using the UN to further their own agendas and collecting unpaid parking tickets!

most people don't have any idea what's going on in Darfur, except for that it's always brought up as a global injustice.
the problem is, everyone always says "what about Derfur" and then they never explain the problems.
here and in the news the only information ever given is that "Darfur is in really bad shape. People are dying. it's horrifying" but then that's it.
I know what's going on,
but if you want people to comment, give links, descriptions and what YOU think the answer to the suffering is... that's how you generate conversation...

You do not live a cold world.
Just because you want to save a third world country doesn't mean everyone agrees with you.
Change usually comes from within. If you really want to save Darfur go there and do what you can. If you are not willing to do this how am I supposed to believe that you really want to affect change there?
If your answer is that you cannot afford to do this try to send all your money to one of the various humanitarian organizations that do what you want done. If you don't think that the money you have available is enough. Cancel your subscriptions to cable companies, magazines, newspapers, Internet service providers, etc.... and donate that money too. Until all of this is done I DO NOT BELIEVE YOU ARE AS SERIOUS AS YOU THINK YOU ARE.

People do, but the UN has done nothing but pass resolutions followed up by inaction, and the Liberals wonder why most people find the UN to be useless.
China has managed to hold off the world.

The last time we tried to stop a genocide it ended with 18 American soldiers dead and a Presidet too busy with cigars and stained dressed (I did not have sexual relations with that woman... Well, maybe I did) to put his foot down.
eah, is a cold world, but I am nice and toasty here. X3
