Excellent article in the Chicago Sun Times this morning:
People magazine interview does nothing to help his case

November 26, 2007
BY RICHARD ROEPER Sun-Times Columnist
There aren't too many ways a retired Bolingbrook cop finds himself on the cover of People magazine, his photo larger than those of celebrities such as Carrie Underwood and Celine Dion.

Either the guy's dating Jennifer Aniston, or he's at the center of a mystery that has the whole country talking.

Chalk it up to unfortunate coincidence that the photos of Peterson and his third and fourth wives, under the headline, "DID HE KILL TWO WIVES?" are next to a photo of Ms. Underwood with the headline, "Carrie Underwood: On Her Bad Luck with Guys."

We already knew the People story would include a shot of Peterson in a double-breasted suit, posing on the deck outside his home, because our local news teams shot footage of Peterson posing for People's photographer.

Profile of a suspect
Not that the People story helps Peterson's cause. You read about Peterson's broken marriages to Carol Brown and Vicki Connolly; about the 18 calls made to police as the third marriage deteriorated; about the discovery of Kathleen's body; about the circumstances of Stacy's disappearance. You read all that and more, and you digest Peterson's comments ("I'm not a perfect man by any means, but nobody is ... you're only seeing my dirty laundry.") and you think, why is this guy talking to the media?

It might be close to impossible to put yourself in Peterson's shoes. But let's say you had all those troubled marriages, and you were truly and totally innocent of any crimes. Would you put on the suit and pose for People magazine? Would you chat it up with Matt Lauer? Or would you be so consumed by your worries over your missing wife, your interest in caring for your children, your horror over being named a suspect, that you wouldn't even think of talking to the media?

Any person with compassion and good common sense would keep his mouth shut and frantically search for the mother of his children, especially if he thought she left with another man. He's showing no compassion for his children or even trying to find his missing wife. If she would have left with another man, there would be some sort of trail. No mother would leave her children like that. I don't know her, but I know she wouldn't leave her children. His lack of compassion and concern make him seem as guilty and arrogant as O.J. Simpson. 2D

If it acts like a duck, walks like a duck, sounds, smells, etc. like a duck...

Good story. But truly I personally don't want to crawl inside that man's mind. Yes the last sentence was fabulous! Poor guy...

He's no different than Michael Vick or anybody else that gets hit by the caboose - they were the engine of their own destiny and all the crap they've done all along gets them into trouble. Then while they're getting in trouble and the consequences are REAL - they cry foul. It's kharma doing its excellent job! He may or may not have murdered two wives (yea right), but he's done something all along where he arrives at the station of life he's in right now - he's just not a good guy whose having a streak of bad luck. P.S. Peterson (name is uncanny, isn't it?) is a douchebag!

It's obvious that he and Stacy really have a dysfunctional marriage..and her disappearance just makes it easier for him to rid of her...why should he feel worried when she is gone..just as he wants.
To prove she is dead..is not going to be easy..so far they have no real evidence there is any wrongdoing.
There is even wild speculation he went on a small plane Trip to see where he could dispose of the body..now that's really grabbing at straws.

The whole story is so tragic, and meanwhile I cannot imagine how her children are handling this. My husband and I live not to far from Bolingbrook and it is really surreal to have all this media around.

The neighbor saw him load a blue barrel into his GM and drive away with it! Why is this guy still walking free? Because his cop buddies are still covering for him!
