Attriction cuts both ways. But let's be real. There are more of them than there are of us. They don't have to borrow money to keep this thing going. We do and everyday we go deeper into a financial black hole. They don't care how many of them die or how many they kill...a philosophy that's not acceptable here in the west. What to do? Get totally out of the middle east and stop importing their oil. Any attack on the US would then invite a massive air attack on some previously announced target..like Mecca! Unless we change the algebra of this situation we'll never get ahead of their game. The US is a sea and air power...it's not a land power. Attempting to put enough 'boots on the ground' in the middle east is a foolish idea...we don't have enough boots and a draft is out of the question. The Bush Junta was wrong from day one, they're still wrong and until these guys get out of Washington everything we do is going to be wrong. Occupying the middle east for the benefit of the Oil Mafia was and is simply a 'bridge too far'. It isn't going to work! Fergetaboutit!

Ignoring all the childish sputtering about Bush, attrition is one way to look at our strategy in the war on terror. Other's might call it killing as many terrorists as possible, in hopes of making the idea of being a terrorist less attractive to the uneducated muslims with small lives. That, of course, will not work with some of the truly fanatical muslims, many of whom are educated. At any rate, giving the terrorists respite and thereby giving them time to regroup and move about freely is not an option. The grownups will continue waging the war on radical islam and the kids will continue wasting their time, trying to blame the President for everything they can think of.

In the last year we have made several intelligence breakthroughs in understanding the Al Queida strategy in Iraq.
Though our strategy looks as though we are fighting a battle of Attrition, we have been totally wiping out AlQueida in Iraq.
From Osama bin laden on down, we have found out that Alqueida has actually using Iraq as their battleground to fight America and kill Americans...as we also choose Iraq ti combat them...a mutual choice for a place to fight. and we have been winning.
US forces found a map (actually made by Zarcowee, that shows the major positions of Al Q in and around Baghdad. We used it, one area at a time, and have wiped them out and forced them into the open countryside were they have been totally destroyed.
Now the Sunnis have finally decided that if America leaves, the Shites will have their way with the minority Sunnis...so they're cooperating now too!
Not attrition...but victory in Iraq

What i understand is this. We are spending money and losing troops to set up a Democracy in a country that will never abide by one. Killing the terrorists is a great thing, let's let them follow us back to Afghanistan and kill them there. We can say that is why we are there and I will be fine with it.

I think you are assuming that is Bush's policy. Nobody is sure as to what Bush's policy is, as he never articulates his thoughts.
