Well I just changed from Charter to ATT Uverse - that is the fiber optic AT&T and I will say the TV pictures are better and the internet is much faster.

6mbs is usually faster than what the cable supplies as a norm. Ours was 5mbs. which we paid more for than the normal 3mbs. (Don't know why the guy above said 100mbs - ain't happening except as a LOCAL connection!)
I just looked up what speeds are available with COMCAST

Seems like you get 4, 6 or 8 mbs for home users!

If you have AT&T Uverse service in your area I have found it much better than the cable system. https://uverse1.att.com/un/launchAMSS.do

So yes, I would say switch. AT&T didn't require a contract or any commitment for the hook up. At 5800 feet you should work just fine. It too will occasionally hickup but I have a lot faster connection and a lot better service for a lot less money these days. (Hope they keep it up!) Maybe the cable companies will get wise and stop the rip offs in service and charges! Competition is good for all of us.

PS - I dont have any "phone lines" they will supply dsl without any phone lines these days! Which makes a good VOIP phone system a great deal also!

I say stick with Comcast. Both DSL and Comcast crap out from time to time. Comcast generally is 100mb/second which is MUCH faster than 6mb/second. Plus, Cable net needs no phone line. I would say stick with comcast, get rid of your house phone line, and use your cell phone to save the most money.

Consider this:
Cable TV + Cable Net = around $50-60

or

Cost to switch + Cable TV + DSL + phone line (which you don't even need) = $80-100

Don't bet on that 100 mb/s speed (or even close). If you are lucky on cable you will get somewhere in the area of 30-45 mb/s. That's just the way it is unless you pay business rate or get the "gold" package. Another drawback of Comcast is that if you use a P2P application (file sharing like limewire or bearshare) they send a reject to you and the other end on the protocol level. This basically means any P2P gnutella program will not work. Currently, the DSL guys aren't doing this.

yup I have right before ending my first marriage. I even had a friend that was interested in helping me. But I was just really starved for attention, confused about my life and well a bit curious. I didn't want to end up hurting her in my confused state so I didn't allow anything to begin. She was sweet and if I was going to switch I would give her a call.
