An ecological niche is the role than an organism plays within a particular ecosystem, and ecosystem functions are the net effect of all the roles played by each organism in an ecosystem, along with abiotic factors.

There is an infinite numbers of ways to define an ecosystem, and nearly an infinite number of ways to describe a niche. A niche of an organism is often described by attributes such as behavior, physiology, food types, energetics, effect on the environment, and any other topic of interest.

Since niches are defined within a particular ecosystem, you need to define the different ecosystems before identifying niches,The links below provide info on ecosystems, ecosystem functions, and some ways they might be broken down into niches:

an ecological niche really isnt an area (such as boreal forest for example) but more of a way to show how an organism responds and adapts to the different resources in the area. there are alot of factors that decide which niche an organism or group of organisms occupy, but the competitive exclusion principle says that no two species can occupy the same one. Akk i'm having trouble explaining fully eheh so i'll leave you some links, hopefully theyll do a better job than i did :)
