It is the first day of Buck hunting season for deer hunters.

I went to school in PA.
The first day of buck season is the Monday after Thanksgiving.
No one went to school that day.
Some PSU professors took off that day.
So, PA made it a holiday.
Rather than moving the day to a Saturday.
Hunting is not allowed on Sunday.

The day itself is the first day of deer season, for hunting.
I went to school in PA all throughout my grade school years. Not very many kids would actually come to school on that day, if they didn't have it off. Hunting is a REALLY big deal in some parts of PA.
