I was on my way to work when this guy was standing in the street with a folder and told me that I could save money on home appliances, but I had to fill in a form.

I gave him my name (false first name) and false bank details. reason for that was because of identity fraud.

He did not show my terms and conditions of the service he was providing.

Am I in the wrong to provide false bank details?

I don't see why you felt you had to provide anything at all.

But you're right, never give your real bank details away to someone on the street like that.

Anytime a stranger approaches you and offers any kind of deal especially concerning money or any of your personal business tell them your not interested and if they persist with some kind of smooth line just stand firm.
NEVER do business with anyone unless you are the one to go to them and you know and are familiar with the business.
It's not worth taking the risk
You can save money on home appliances by looking in the store advertizements of your local newspaper.
Please don't be gullible and cave in to strangers on the street or the ones who come to your door or the strangers who call you on the phone offering great deals. They have a plan in mind and that is to get your money in their pocket.

You were absolutely right. Never give your bank details to a canvasser or someone in an e-mail either. Several times I have had requests from a site that looks like paypal that wants to "verify" my banking info and credit card numbers. Paypal asks you forward these requests to their fraud department to investigate.

You shouldn't have even stopped to speak to him, but it's good you never gave you real bank details

No, you should have just refused to give your bank details to him.

No you weren't in the wrong - but why bother to fill anything in at all? Just walk on by.

No, but why didn't you simply say I am not interested, in stead giving the false information.
