He has left for work this morning with specific instructions NOT to put the central heating on. He says that I can light the fire instead, but I'm too cold to go outside to get some fuel :-(

My hands are so cold I can hardly type!

What should I do? Sneak the heating on or grit my teeth and go outside for fuel for the fire?

Is he trying to conserve money or what?

If you let the house get too cold the furnace has to work harder to reheat the place. That costs more than if you just turn the heat down.

If I were you I'd put the heat on at a lower but comfortable setting and put on a sweatshirt. Get the firewood after you warm up.

Have a chat with hubby when he gets home. He is being ridiculous! He wouldn't sit in a cold house!

Put the heating on for god's sake. Turn it off about an hour before he's due to get home. Then put on your whole wardrobe, jumpers t-shirts the lot. If he asks you why you don't look sexy anymore, or what you're doing just say its the only way you can get warm, and if he doesn't like it he'll have to put the heating on. Sounds like a tight wad to me.

Dear Maud, you don't say how old you are, but I'm guessing that you aren't over 30. If your husband is trying to save money, you should work as a team and help him. It will benefit you both in the long term. Right now, if you are cold, do as he suggests. Bundle yourself up, and go get the fuel you need to stay warm! How hard is that, really? Instead of whining to everyone about how cold you are, do something about it!!! If, on the other hand, he is just a control freak, do yourself a favor.....turn the central heat on full blast, pack your things and leave the loser! Good luck!

If your at home all day, presumably getting his dinner and keeping the house clean and tidy then you put on the heating. He is at work where the law says that there must be heating so he is happy so why should you not be happy. You have got to stand up to him otherwise he will rule everything you do. If you have thermostatic radiator valves then turn them down by a full setting point. Upstairs turn off all the radiators and then turn on the heating. keep it on when he gets home and if he moans tell him that you are as entitled to be warm while at work as he is. Alternatively, turn off the heating an hour before he gets home and turn the boiler into the off position and see how he feels about being in a cold house for the evening. You must stand up to him otherwise you will be stuck for ever on this and other issues.

Put the heating on, and if he whines, tell him it's that or divorce court. You have the right not to suffer just because he's a miser and a prick.

Well its a bit mean of your hubby to order you to not use the ehating, it has been well cold of late, I have had the gas fire on full a lot lately.

I do understand where he is coming from in terms of it is expensive but you cannot freeze.
How about using a hair dryer to warm you up, you don't need it on continuously, but each time you feel cold blast the warm air on yourself, and maybe get under your duvet on the sofa.

WHAT? and you are allowing him to treat you like that...sorry girl..your married to a selfish control freak...put the heat on and tell him to get lost....what is he, some sort of freak or something...get rid...you should not have to sneak around your OWN home doing things behind his back...just get that heating on and tell him he either stops being a controlling @sshole or he's history....jeez i cannot believe your allowing him to do this...

You have got to be kidding. That's your home too! If you don't work outside the home, I'm sure you pull your time inside it. Go to the thermostat and turn it up!!!! If your husband don't like it, well, next time, stay in the bed, bundled up all day, and when he comes home to a messy house and no supper, well, you get the picture!! NO WOMAN SHOULD FREEZE FOR NO MAN!!!

Put a jumper and a coat on and then brave the cold to get some fuel for the fire... You're husband is out earning money to pay the bills and all he is asking is that you take a little initiative and take care of yourself while he is gone

It isn't like he is asking you to freeze, he is just asking you to find other ways of keeping warm... which are available.

Maybe you could ask him tonight to bring the fuel for the fire closer to the house so that you won't have to go so far tomorrow...

If the fire just isn't warming you up (which lets face it, it should do) then put on the central heating...

I don't understand why everyone is being so harsh to your husband... I feel that he has the right to ask you (so long as he is asking politely) to use the fire rather than the central heating... A fire is nicer than central heating anyway...
