I have a wireless router through which I access internet on my Personal Desktop Computer. I log in to my office laptop on the office domain. I want to transfer files directly from my desktop to my laptop. Is it possible through the wireless connection since both my laptop and desktop access internet through the same router.

thanks

Well you didn't say what Operating Systems but lets assume Windows. For Windows to work with another computer on the same network and share files there needs to be a "common" network setup on both computers.

The easiest way to do this is run the network setup wizard on each machine. The wizard will do the following.
Enable File and Print sharing, set the Workgroup name to the same workgroup, and setup the needed information for the machines to "see" each other.

You can get to the wizard from the Control Panel on Windows XP and Vista.

Once that is done you should be able to share files that are in a "network shared" folder. The wizard will make ONE for you. Files need to be in a shared folder or you won't see them. You can share any folder by right clicking on the folder name in Explorer and clicking the "share this folder" button.

As long as you have both machines connected to the Internet or communicating through the same router then you can choose whatever protocol you wish to transfer files. ;) The most common file transferring and sharing protocol in Windows must be Samba which is easy to set up. :) But I can suggest SSH or FTP (both encrypted) but that would take you too deep into networking.

Good luck with it! :)
