Leo Kottke is the best ACOUSTIC player out there!!!
Hendrix taught the world how to play the electric guitar...then Eddie re-invented it. Others may be "better", but those two are the Bach and Mozart of the electric guitar world.

slash is very simplistic i think. he's good, and fun to listen to but by no means a guitar genius.
my vote is pete townshend. no matter what style of music, whether it's on acoustic or electric, he can play it all. he may not have been as crazy as jimi, but his acoustic stuff was far far better than jimi's.

Hendrix was best then but he is dead so...now you'd be hard pressed to find one better than Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria.(the band sux but he his an exceptional guitarist)
