If Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer, booting into Safe Mode with these instructions.
* If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power
* Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
* Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
* Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected.
* Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
* When you are finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.
To use the System Configuration Utility method
* Close all open programs.
* Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK
* The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab, Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK and Restart your computer when prompted.
* The computer restarts in Safe mode.
* Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode, open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT" and click OK to restart your computer

keep pressing F8 on startup untill you have the selection of startup options, select Safe mode.
if you have tried this and it freezes, (and have waited for about 5 minutes) then start it normally. go to my computer, and right click on c:\ go to proporties, and tools, and do a disk scan. check the one box (not the free space or bad cluster scan because it will take a few days depending on your drive) and if it says to run at start up, let it. because you might have a error on your drive somewere
go to the start menu and run (or the blank search in vista) and type msconfig.
a box should come up and you can select diognostic startup. or you could go to serivices and the startup tab and manually search through there and find the thing that is starting up and messing up your computer, insted of trying to sort it out in safe mode.

I agree with the above person,,,, Just try F8 to have access to Dos commands ,, then you will find options there,, One of them is open the computer in SAFE MODE , then chose that one.

Get a Virus from the internet and then rename it to (.bat)
You Will Get virus on your computer! But then when you restart it will ask you wether to start in Safe Mode or not. Try It in Safe Mode!!
