this is the way i done it, i bought a meter length of 3.5mm steel cable which has eyelets at either side, i anchor bolted the cable to the wall using 95mm long and 14mm thick anchor bolts, the ones with the metal sleve as opose to the plastic, my tv has two hooks on the back as the previous owner had his suspended using the same size of cable through his ceiling joists, when i bolted the cable on the wall i physicaly climbed up my wall holding on to the cable and tryed to pull it out using my feet against the wall as leverage, and it didnt budge, obviously the tv wont put that much strain on it as the waight will be pulling downwards, and not outwards as i was doing, so its hanging like a picture in theory, do you think it will be ok, thanks

i am not that silly, its a brick wall, hence the reason i used anchor bolts (for use on concrete)

If you can hang by the cable..and it is in a brick wall ....I would consider this question resolved,,,those anchors are not going to move..if you cant pull them straight out...cant see you pulling them down...good job !!!

Firstly if the wall had a fireplace then it is very unlikely that there would be wood on the scene, an old fashioned fireplace may have been removed and a plasterboard job used to fill the gap, do not trust this type of wall job. If plaster board has been used you may need a builder in the fit a small iron plate across the fire opening and have it bricked up from that point to meet the old extant. Once the wall is set sound, drill it at the desired point using the template and fixings supplied with the tv set, then get help raising it to the fixing position. good luck.

I dont think this is OK! You are ment to use a bracket designed for flat screen TVs! Ok Rawl bolts can take alot of weight but using catenery wire?! What Iv done with my 32" LCD is use a purposely built bracket purchased from Comet attached it to the wall with 8 12x3" Woodscrews with brown rawl plugs and made it perfectly level with a boat level. -It hasnt budged in 2 years!

I have recently added a flat screen to my movie room and I purchased a pivoting bracket for about $100. I know you have done a lot of work but I suggest you protect your investment and mount your Plasma using one of these brackets.

They come in all shapes and sizes and are very simple to install. I also ran my wires in the wall so it looks really cool to just see a television on the wall without any wires showing.

Hope this helps.

Think you made a mistake buying plasma, In my view LCD is a better buy. Still having said that, If the fixings will take your full weight then your TV should be fine. Happy viewing.

That will be ok, but did you check that the distances from the fire are correct if you fitted it to the firplace wall?
