I recently purchased a pre-owned 2005 Saturn Relay. Since I've had it, I've had problems with it. I have taken it back to the dealership and supposedly they fixed whatever the problem was, but still I could not tell any changes. Now there is a new problem. Everytime I turn the ignition key it will start and then cuts off. I have to do this at least 2-3 times plus put my foot on the gas pad in order for the car to stay running. I am a single mom with 4 kids and right now repairing this car is not in my budget. I am trying my best to keep my cool and talk to the dealership again from which I purchased my vehicle from about this new problem. I wish there was law stating that the dealership is required by law to inform those purchasing a pre-owned vehicle what past problems the car has and what needs to be fixed on it. The dealership asured me that the car has been inspected thoroughly before even put back on the lot, but I am sure it wasn't. Can anyone tell me what could be causing

What could be causing the car to require me to use the gas pad in order for it to start up?

Not sure how recent is recent but if you bought the car from a Saturn dealership and it was a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle, you should be able to complain to the manager that this car has given you nothing but trouble since you purchased it. If he gives you another chance to try and fix it at their garage, then let him...this time he might put some pressure on the Service department to do a more thorough job. If it still acts up after that work, then I'd complain to Saturn's Customer Assistance Center about the lousy customer service and questionable CPO program from this particular dealership. If you don't want to go to that extreme, then you can try bringing it to another Saturn dealership if there's another one near you and hope that their Service Dept is more competent.

Complaints: Email on their website or Mail to:

Since it's a 2005 car, the new car warranty is still in effect for 3 years or 36K miles. If you're over those figures then if you purchased this vehicle from a no-name Used Car dealership, then you're out of luck if the vehicle only came with a 30-day warranty. Once that warranty is expired you'll have to start paying for the repairs out of your own pocket.

its kinda sounding like a problem ive had in the past!have you tried moving the rev selector up a notch on the accelerator cable ?when my car wasnt idling properly the AA came out and just moved the accelerator cable up a little by the selector and then took the air hose off the carbaretor and squirted some wd40 inside on the air intake (usually a half moon shape)just inside as it can become all gunked up!it worked tho
