That is probably the worse thing you could do. If you cannot get inside an enclosed structure what you should do is find the lowest possible spot, and lay down as flat as possible at that spot. Lightning, if it is going to strike anything to speed it's course it'll strike the tallest object around. This is why you'll see lightning strike the top of the Empire State Building before any of the surrounding ones, because it's taller, and has a nice copper lead from the lightning rod to the ground, a good conductor of electricity. Lightning always choses the path of least resistance. You are soft and made of salty water, a great conductor.

No way! The best thing you could do at a beach is to at least find a low place and crouch down in the lowest position possible. Under a tall tree is especially dangerous as it is easy for it to be struck by lightning and once it does it catches in flames and you'd be roasted!!

No, it wouldn't be good. Electricity can pass through trees, and you would be electrocuted and roasted if you stood under one during a storm. It is best to run indoors, rather that under trees (especially tall ones. The more higher up, the more likely to be hit by lightning).

There are two things that you need to consider. One is that it is a bad idea and the other is that you need to stay away from it the distance that is equal to its height. There is something called the ground effect that will get you if lightning strikes near you. That is why if there is nothing else around you and you are in a lightning storm you crouch with your feet as close together as you can.

No - the tree is a good TARGET for the lightning, and will increase your chances of being hit.

You are better off getting in an open area (or a hollow) and lying down to keep the lowest profile you can.

You're kidding, right?

No, for the love of God, it's not. Find a ditch or something, lie flat in it, stay away from trees.

No it is NOT.
The tree can act as a conductor.
You can be placing yourself in harms way.
If it is raining, leave the beach immediately.
