What is the best domestic sewing machine for making corsets and work on thick fabrics?

I have a Bernina circa 1978 and it sews through everything. I re-covered my kitchen vinyl chairs without any trouble.
You should take some samples of fabrics that you will be using with you to a sewing center and ask for a demo.

Any machine will work, just use heavy duty needles on the tick fabrics. Change your needles often. If it's VERY thick, look for a machine with a high post. If you will be sewing a lot, consider buying a used factory machine.

My Bernina Quilters Edition sews over denim seams quite happily, if that's a help.
