I am due to go away this weekend, it's a 320 mile round trip (I would be driving). I will be 37 weeks pregnant. The books I have read say that most babies arrive between 37 - 42 weeks.

I want the baby in my local hospital and if I went into labour, I doubt I'd be capable of driving the 2.5 hour journey home. My husband has yet to pass his driving test, therefore he isn't allowed to drive on the motorways necessary to get home.

Is it safe to assume the baby will not arrive and go ahead with my plans. Or is it wise not to go?

At this stage i dont think you can say anything can or wont happen. If i were you i would think twice about going if being at your local hospital is that important to you. Good luck

Well, this is timing! My daughter-in-law was due in 3 weeks. Last Monday she went for her regular check-up and the Dr told her it would be a miracle if the baby were born in the next two weeks. We got a call this morning at 7 AM eastern that her water had broke and she was admitted to the hospital. It is now almost 8 hours later. My son has called and said everything is progressing well, even though slow. So, you see, the unexpected can happen, even if you see the Dr. If you still plan to go, make sure you know where the hospitals are. I'd really change my plans if possible, though. Good luck with your baby.
Update: It's a boy.

as 37 weeks is considered full term i would seriously think about changing your plans if you went in to labour you would not be safe to drive even in early labour the contractions can be very pain full. if you decide to go make sure you know the quickest route to the nearest hospital and have your hand held notes with you just in case. sometimes babies come when the mum is across town then you will be taken to the nearest hospital anyway. if it's your first baby you won't know how long your labour will be some women have very short labour then you would want a midwife with you asap.good luck what ever you decide i hope the birth goes well kids are wonderful I've got three and one grandchild.

ignore the person that said 37 weeks is full term

the baby determines when it is ready and you should not determine the babies development by the weeks, as very often it is wrong.

a babies development rate determines when labour will start and every baby develops at a different rate.

so while 1 baby can be ready to be born at 37 weeks, another may not be ready until 42 weeks, as it is, if you induced such a baby to be born at 37 weeks, the baby would be premature, and its lungs would not be fully developed yet.

it is good that you are reading up on it. your baby will come when its ready, you can't foreplan a birth because of this unfortunately.

i really wouldn't advise the trip its a long way and if you were to go into the labour on the motorway you would be stuck on the hard shoulder if you were to need to pull over. imagine doing 70 mph down the motorway and your waters breaking. they say your most likely to go into labour 2 weeks either side of your due date. Good Luck!!

37 weeks is already full term, so baby is ready to come. I'm almost certain that with the strain fo the journey, especially with you driving, you will most likely fall into labor on the journey. I'll advise that you do not take the chance. Good luck

I really wish that we could reassure you, but you will have to change ur plans a lot of babies come between 36 and 40 weeks. Especially in ur first pregnancy. The drive will also not do your back any good.

the opportunity of you dropping your toddler or having a toddler that has complications is better in case you nonetheless smoke as antagonistic to quitting chilly turkey. As a pregnant female who's a smoker, you're already putting your toddler in chance for miscarriage or stillbirth in case you do not provide up. once you've got here across that steadily reducing decrease back is what works proper than keep on with that. enable's say you smoke 5 cigarettes for the subsequent 3 days, then on day 3 decrease decrease back to 4 cigarettes, then go on with 4 cigarettes for yet another 3 days then decrease down back etc. even if, in case you imagine that'd you would have better success going chilly turkey than try that mind-set instead. if you're purely smoking 5 cigarettes in line with day the withdrawals must be minimial. the hardest section may be basically breaking the habit itself, no longer the actual indicators of withdrawal. For myself for my section, that changed into the case.

I wouldnt risk it just incase you do go into labour. Its even more riskier because your husband dont drive so what would you do? Good luck though, you might not go in labour and end up having a great time, do what you think is right!!
