I've been told that all food that has red dye #40 has tee-tiny red beetles from S. America processed to get the color. It's everywhere!

Lots of -I'd wager all of them do, but who knows?- them do... Check out the info below and note that almost everything that uses Cochineal uses insects/bugs.
--Annatto is a reddish-orange dye made from the seed of a tropical tree. Chlorella is green, and derived from algae. Cochineal is a red dye derived from cochineal insects.
--Together with ammonium carmine they can be found in meat, sausages, processed poultry products, surimi, marinades, alcoholic drinks, bakery products and toppings, cookies, desserts, icings, pie fillings, jams, preserves, gelatin desserts, juice beverages, varieties of cheddar cheese and other dairy products, sauces and sweets.
So technically, it's not just fast food. Almost everything else uses Cochineal for food colouring. And in so doing, you've got your answer. Yes, they DO use beetles for food colour.

Ive never heard of that. I know that when I was younger I was told that they put beetle blood in lipstick to give it the red colour. You just got to be careful where and what you eat.
