This is our first Christmas in a decent sized house...before we've been in apartments and a tiny tiny cottage...this year I want to make the outside look nice...we have a big porch...with a sort of a roof and two walls either side...what can I do except lights? I will put a wreath on the door but want to avoid lights because of the cost....

Sometimes I hang baubles outside around the porch perimeter using fishing line cut to all different lengths. The sun does tend to fade them though so don't use ones you want to keep forever. I use old ones which won't fit on the tree anymore now that I've bought more.

I put a Christmas tree on my porch, wrap any railings with fake pine garland or even cut a few pine bows and wire them on, line your walk with those large candy canes ( you can get them at the dollar stores). I live in the country so can cut red brush and fill containers with it and hang a few plastic ornaments on it. Wood cut out lawn ornaments also look festive. Happy decorating!

because of the fact that it is your first christmas jointly i might advise commencing a practice of paying for for the two one specific decoration or each of you procuring one for the different individual. with the aid of the years your decoration sequence will strengthen and you have got many memories on the tree for each decoration might desire to have a intending to you. you may desire to be an avid reader and hubby purchase you an decoration with books on it or an decoration representing a fave holiday, eating place, etc. would not count what it is barely make it specific. For stocking stuffers small cologne bottles, cd's, home made coupon e book for backrubs etc, in basic terms approximately any small ingredient that could interest your hubby. Kitties love kitty toys and that they dont whinge with reference to the colour...hehe For our grandchildren we bought them each a small 4 foot tree and each twelve months they get some specific adorns from us and close kin. I make certain the adorns have the twelve months and who they have been given them from related so as that they are going to constantly comprehend that information and as they grow previous they gets excitement from it greater.

A real tree with roots in a pot. Decorate with home made wired bows - very pretty and you have it for next year. Solar lights are good for outside too and no cost to run - just the initial outlay.

Well. . . If you have a garden you could have the tree in it as someone suggested. If you go onto Ebay.com or Ebay.com.au you can get like blow-up-santa's and things with hooks and everything, you could put one of those in the front garden. You could wrap tinsel around the porch fence [it looks silly but hey, its christmas!] You could get maybe some like wash off paint and paint your walls outside all christmasy, you can get the paint from shops like paint shops, hardware stores etc etc. I buy like 10KG's of fake snow from cheap shops for around $25, You could sprinkle that on your trees, outside furniture etc etc [it might blow away but its cheap, who cares!] You could get the 'Santa Stop Here' signs and poke them in all around the outside of your house, or you could glue them to the side of the walls. You could get like an inflatable santa's sleigh and put it on your roof. As for lights you could get them from a cheap shop, where i live theres a cheap shop down the road and they sell a metre of christmas lights for $1, you could get some of that stuff then plug it in inside. Get a christmas doormat, its always a warmy kinda close togther feeling if you have tacky stuff. If you have kids, maybe you could give them like $20-$30 each and let them buy what they want for outside from cheap shops or walmart or wherever you shop, they'll be really exicted and go mad! You could get the christmas balls and hang them off the tip of the roof for the extra cute look. . . just use your imagaination!
