Why is this word so hard to spell? I have pretty good spelling abilities, but for some reason I have a very hard time spelling this word. Actually, I avoid it like the plague, because I fear having to use it and putting my answer at risk for a possible miss-spelling.

1. Yes
2. A medical doctor specializing in the eye: deficiencies of vision requiring correction, and diseases.
From ophthalmology, "the anatomy, functions, pathology, and treatment of the eye". Comes from Greek οφθαλμολογία (ophthalmologia), from Greek οφθαλμός (ophthalmos) "eye" + -λογία (-logia) "the study of", from λόγος (logos):
1. That which is said: word, sentence, speech, story, debate, utterance
2. That which is thought: reason, consideration, computation, reckoning
3. account
4. Subject matter
5. The word or wisdom of God, identified with Jesus in the New Testament.
(Logos is from λέγω, lego, "I say")
