We have built our kids a sandpit and need to know how much sand to put in it.asically I have forgotten how to work out the volume of a shape. The sandpit dimentions are:
2.3m long x 2.3 m wide x .3 metres deep.
Can you refresshmy brain on this so simple maths problems.

Luckily this one is easy enough.
To calculate the volume you multiply the width x length x depth

So in your case it will be: 2.3 x 2.3 x 0.3 = 1.587 cubic meters

Don't worry, everybody forgets these things at some point in time.

You asked both about volume and mass. You have several answers already that explain how to get the volume of a rectangular shape.

You simply multiply each of the dimensions in meters to get the total volume.

Volume = Length x Width x Depth
= 2.3m x 2.3m x 0.3m
= 1.587 m^3

However, if you need to know how much that sand will weigh, you need to know the *density* of the sand. For example, wet sand is more dense than dry sand. Compacted sand is more dense than loose sand.

The density of sand can vary depending on the grain size and moisture content and how tightly it is compacted
If you dont need very accurate densities the following should help
Dry sand 1780 Kg/m^3
Wet sand 1920 Kg/m^3
Compacted sand 2080 Kg/m^3

Using your 1.587 m^3 and the density of dry sand, I come out with:
1.587 x 1780 = 2,825 Kg

Sand usually comes in about 20-25 Kg bags, so you'll need about 115 to 140 bags of "play" sand to fill the sandbox.

The above answers are correct, although some people misplaced the decimal by multiplying by 3 instead of .3.

Length x Width x Depth

2.3*2.3*.3=1.587 m^3

Everyone forgets the basics occasionally. Don't worry about it.

Volume = length times width times hight

Your answer is 1.58 cubic metres.

volume of sand pit
= 2.3m x 2.3m x 0.3m
= 1.5870 cubic metres or m^3

You'll need 15.87m cubed of sand for your sand pit.

The formula is simply length x width x depth.
