"I could do it with XP but not vista?" - not true. If you were able to convert in XP, it was because you found a 3rd party program.

Very easy follow this step
1 - Go any folder
2 - then select " Organize " from your left site on top.
3 - now select " Folder and Search option"
4 - Select " View " tab.
5 - find " Hide extensions for knowns file types".
6 - if you do not want to see "uncheck" and if you want to see
extensions " check " it.
Now you can see the result.
