Yes, life is pointless. It is completely round.
To answer your question, you must first remember that nearly everyone that has ever lived, has been forgotten, so you're in good company. Beyond that, everyone makes a mark on the world just by the fact of their existence. The reason most people don't see that is because they are too busy feeling sorry for themselves and their condition in life to see the whole picture.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Discouragement is a sharp tool. Try "Men in White Apparel," Ann Ree Colton, "Life before Life," Jim Tucker, M.D., "Expecting Adam," Martha Beck, "Climb the Highest Mountain," Mark Prophet, "Man, Master of His Destiny," O. M. Aivanhov, "The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?", Free and Wilcock, http://www.divinecosmos.com http://www.tiller.org http://www.integralscience.org http://www.quantumbrain.org "The Beautiful Life of a Master," Louise-Marie Frenette, "The Master of Lucid Dreams," Olga Kharitidi, M.D., and "The Great Divorce," C. Each life counts, adds to the fuel in the Elijahan chariot of focused, fiery Light.

Yes. In the grand scale of things. All our lives are pointless. So what's the point of living? Well, this is entirely up to you. Some people want to leave their "mark." Others might want to save the world. But the true answer to this is .. Life's only meaning is the meaning we give it. Basically saying, live your life happily with what you got and appreciate what's given to you. Your mark is the impact you have on those closest to you.
*Don't let people brainwash you with believing in religion.

With world conditions the way they've been, almost for the entire past century, it certainly has *seemed* pointless to many. But, there is a purpose that is not obvious --that needs to be searched for-- and it is well worth one's efforts!
What I'm refering to is explained in the sources listed:

Death is the point of life. We all learn to accept our deaths in different ways. Some people need to "leave a mark" before they can be happy with death - like that guy who shot all his classmates up and then killed himself.
I know that death is the point of my life, but I do not care about the point of life, therefore I do not fear death - I am more concerned with the art of living in each present moment.

The point is, we're animals, and our purpose is to breed and survive. So, spread your seed and enjoy the stuff on the side. Hopefully during our continual breeding we learn to adapt to survive whatever the universe throws at us and become enlightened along the way. The ones that never left their mark are part of natural selection.
Life is what you make of it.

life is pointless - if you have no beliefs
those that have beliefs (e.g. Christians) have hope and comfort in believing something better is just around the corner
as for everybody else, they have no meaning
their purpose involves things that will fade away after they die

Purpose, meaning and therefore "point" are all tied together. They all refer to a design or plan. If we reject God, there can be no purpose nor meaning nor point.
“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (noted mathematician, philosopher, Nobel Laureate and atheist)
Evolution is a natural process and cannot give purpose. Certainly evolution doesn't care whether you reproduce or not.
Nor can we make our own meaning unless we claim to have created ourselves.

it is not necessary that everybody have fame and beloved by a mass. Always keep in your mind that what ever the responsibilities you have that should be fulfilled honestly and after you at least your family must have proud for you and neighbors have respect for you. that is sufficient for a common man.
