It baffles me that anyone takes them seriously, given that the only reason they're posted is to provoke a reaction, much like when a child throws a tantrum in the confectionery aisle in Waitrose.

Of course they're baiting, but you could say that about most of the questions on here where points of view are required.
The McCann questions are mainly by the same old people - anyone who's on here regularly knows the score and can choose whether or not to answer them.

No, you're not the only one who thinks they are immature and posted to provoke reaction, but as for taking them seriously, by which I assume you mean answering them, that's different.

I tend to ignore the really inflammatory ones, but occasionally I like to reply to the negativity just to redress the balance a bit. Often, I feel they are factually incorrect too, or based on a false premise, so I answer with what I think are the facts, just so the questioner's version of events doesn't go completely unchallenged.

None of us really know what happened, but I hate to see what amounts to someone's opinion being given as irrefutable truth. The more times a lie is repeated without being contradicted, the more accepted it becomes.

All questions on Y!A are going to provoke some silly reactions from people that take things way too seriously.
Heck, I've seen non-provoking questions deleted for nothing on here.
I've even gotten rude answers to my innocent questions!

Not all questions on Y!A are posted to provoke anger, just remember that.

i think maybe there are two overall groups of askers on this site.

1) people who are seeking an answer to an honest question

2) people who are trying to employ the socratic method i.e. asking thought provoking questions so that people might actually use their brain

Of course you are entitled to yr opinion.
The question is asked and people may want to answer it. simple.
You dont have to read it or answer it depending on how you feel about the question.
I dont see why it should baffle you, as yr question hasnt baffled me.
It is simply something you are unable to control.
