Goldfish is one of the species, which is almost impossible to sex, unless they're in breeding age, which is around 2 years of age

We've had a pond since I was a kid and always lots of goldfish... The only way we could tell was in the spring and the boys kept bugging and chasing the girls...
In July I got a young koi to go along with our remaining big one. I *think* she's a she because a couple goldfish immediately started flirting. lol

Good question. I have owned fish in the past and have had the same problem. No one I know seemed to know either. I still don't have a clue.

It is impossible to sex goldfish until they are ready to spawn ( about 2 years of age). You need to investigate the spawing habits of goldfish so you know what to look for and how to promote spawing with your tank chemistry and landscaping. check out link below they will inform you correctly.
