I've suffered from insomnia for a number of years on and off, I've tried a variety of natural treatments such as herbal sleep / calming aids, lavender oil on the corner of my pillow, Rescue Remedy (found in most health food shops and chemists), massage, herbal teas before bed, reducing caffine and alcohol intake, eating well and excersising reguarly (swimming is particularly good). All of these have worked to an extent.
For your own problems, how easy do you find it to 'switch off' at the end of the day? Do you find you lay awake and worry, or just think too much? Eliminating stresses seems to be the key to calming yourself at night. One thing that really seemed to help and you could give this method a try if you can; I realised that if I couldn't sleep, I simply wasn't tired and there was no point in trying to fight against it. There is no point in going to bed too early for one thing if you're wide awake, but if you can't sleep, then get up, make a hot drink (no caffine though) and read, watch telly, log on to 'Yahoo Answers'! Try and find something you can do to fill your time. I do this regularly now; I now have occassional bounts every few weeks where insomnia sets in for about 2 - 4 days, I ride it out and then I'm fine. I know sleep is important but sometimes I think our bodies want (or don't want) something that's part of our usual routine. You may find that the reduction in stress caused by the pressure to sleep will eventually restore a natural balance that suits YOU more. Chemical sleeping meds are fine as a very tempory treatment, but they can upset your own natural patterns and can prevent you from finding them again. Do assess your stress levels though and see if there's a possible link to your restlessness at night. Good luck anyway and I do hope you find a way through all this.

This might be prompted via many matters adding simply behavior you have no idea are inflicting it. Try no caffeine within the afternoon. Sometimes dozing maintains us wakeful. Watching TV can preserve your mind prompted. We sleep larger if we get pastime. Sometimes a snooze cycle can get reset to the fallacious time of day via being sick. Try to simply keep up all day so you're worn out that night time and will sleep. Anxiety approximately day-to-day lifestyles could intervene additionally. If it's unresolvable you must see a general practitioner and get evaluated. There are a few herbs that support, however I are not able to endorse some thing, your health practitioner must do that via taking your clinical historical past into consideration.

I have to tell myself to sleep and decide that it's more important to sleep than it is to stay awake. It takes effort---and you can reward yourself, too. You can also do manual labor--work it hard. But mostly you need to tell yourself you have to sleep and that it is important. <3
