can be necessary or optional..it depends on each and everyone's values.. :) if someone feels it is necessary because of what she had in the family and family beliefs then it is..otherwise, an option though.

Marriage is necessary definitely, if you both want to have children and then a strong sense of duty towards the family, especially towards the children.
Marriage is also necessary as a means of close, loving companionship to share whatever is around and perform other duties towards the society, in whatever manner one feels like.
Other than the above two reasons, marriage is absolutely unnecessary. Also some of the functions and needs in the second instance can also be performed outside of a marriage.
For a different perspective read Origin of Family, Private Property, and State. Don't remember the author.

I think its alittle bit of both you should just be aware of your options.
It can be necessary and optional but in my case it'll be b\c I would like to get married but if my other half didnt want to then so be it.Im not fussed just as long as we're still together and committed w\o the paper work then I dont see anything wrong with it.I like to know my options really.
For me it can be necessary or optional I really dont care. To marry or not marry is the question I'll find out when I get to that point in my life.

Optional. However, I think having kids and a family are more stable in a marriage.

it depends from where you are from.
in the place where i live, in some societies, marriage is NOt an option and (specially girls) have no choice. the parent sthemselves pick the partener.
according to christian beleifs, its optional. it says that if u cant control your sexual desires its better u get married else its no problem
my theory is that you have the right to choose

Optional. Marriage is not for everyone. Its a huge responsibility to carry out though out one's life. It takes courage, patience, intelligence etc. to make a marriage successful. Everyone doesn't possess all the required traits.

I think it is necessary in the earlier child rearing years, but seniors should have it be optional because of losing pensions and income from deceased mates.

I have been married twice,,still with my second husband,,But even though we were living together for the last 14 years we have only been married for 9..It is just a piece of paper to some but it does protect you in the event of a divorce, it enables you to get insurance form your spouses employer.if one of you die before the other you have social security ..many reasons..plus if you live in a community property state if you are married and divorce you get half of the assets.your children are not considered illegitimate many reasons..you have the security that you are together and hopefully will not be alone, it's a commitment to each other
