When i was younger my dad used to drink alot and he used to lie to my mum and me about how much money he spent or if he gamled or not and stuff, and he also used to break promises to me... although hes changed now... do you think growing up with that for a while is the reason why i find it hard to trust guys??

Could be, but you must remember that every guy is like like your dad. Give them the benefit of the doubt until you actually catch them in a lie. If you wait long enough to fall in love, you will know whether the guy is a good man or a liar.

Liars always catch themselves sooner or later. They have to keep telling so many lies to cover the first one up. After all of that, it is inevitable that they will tell one too many and get caught.

It is quite likely that this has a lot to do with your difficulty in trusting guys. That's not the worst thing in the world though, because many people don't deserve trust, so it's not bad to be a bit skeptical.
The flip side is that there are honest guys out there, and they will have to suffer your skepticism until they have earned your trust.
This also might be a good opportunity to look past guys appearance, good or not so good, and look to their character first.
After what you have learned about humans and their ability to misrepresent themselves, you might find the treasure in your trial is that you gained the wisdom to hunt for the best treasures in a person first and consider their character and values first. You just might avoid future suffering of a person of poor character.
Lastly, look to make sure that your trust issues aren't damaging your relationships with completely unfounded concerns. If this is so, then perhaps counseling is in order.
