Both are good: but, HDFC seems to be more well established! icici, may have an edge in the wider range of products! in the matter of 'after sales service' both seem to be a bit sluggish, perhaps! On the whole, in sum, hdfc may have a slight advantage, as they have a longer history of existence!

Both ICICI and HDFC (Including their bank, home loan and insurance Departments) are professionally managed institutions . Both of them are doing very good job in service wise, but HDFC has more experience and creditability in terms of their long existence. For our meager savings and Banking operations both of equally good as they are fully backed by Government of india.

But while analizing other aspects of these two I like to say -

In our Tamil Language there is saying - Akala Kali vaipadu - means keeping the legs very broad. If you keep your legs too broad you are expected to fall easily than moving ahead. Similarly ICICI have in a short period of less than 10 years started so many services and they are in takeover spree of all small banks and gaining big high volume customers which I feel risky. -
