I'm 18 years old and I made some bad decisions a while back and now I'm trying to fix things. I am doing correspondence and I have grade 10 completed so far.

I really want to just get rid of high school and get a GED. Having to complete high school is really holding my life back. I want to do a lot of things. I want to get fun hobbies, take different classes, save up money, ect.

I don't really like school, so I don't see myself going to university. I can see myself doing a job in the military(which I will almost certainly join, then decide what I want to do in life), police, or trades. I live in Alberta, Canada - a province with a strong economy and getting a job is easy. If I did decide to go into the trades it would be no problem finding a job.

I guess the problem would be getting into school for said job. What negatives are there in getting a GED, based on what I plan to do? Will I be able to get into college if I decide to, and do employers not hire GEDs as much

There is no difference between a GED and a high school diploma. Some employers may want a grade point average and see references from your high school, but this would be in a GED to job situation rather than a GED to college one. Once you get a degree in college your high school records start to become less relevant. Your not getting into Harvard or Yale with one, but I was accepted at St. Cloud State University with one in early 90s. And I know two people that graduated from UofM Minneapolis/St.Paul who dropped out of HS before the 10th grade and had nothing under their belt but a criminal record, a GED, and a high score on their college entrance test. If you plan to go into the military a GED should be fine, after serving time there your idea of what you want to do in life will be much more clear.

there is not any replace for training, so there is not any longer something quickly undesirable approximately having gained a GED. acquire the GED degree first, then set out proving which you're no longer lazy. a number of the neatest, maximum nicely-adjusted human beings I ever met weren't "held back" disturbing approximately no count if or no longer they had a "suited" training. As you regulate into older, you will quickly detect that employers are greater fascinated in overall performance and skills somewhat than the source of a paper degree. stable success.

I work in human resources and when going thru applications there is no differences to us whether you obtained your GED our a high school diploma. We look to see if either are obtained and then go from there. Depending on the position you plan on getting you may need more schools , but most colleges don't deny admisson to their colleges based on GED or high school diploma. If it easier for you to obtain your GED than to complete the correspondence courses you should go for the GED, so that you don't give up and not finish getting your diploma.
