"African National Congress President Thabo Mbeki and his lobbyists were humiliated on Sunday, as the majority of the ruling party's provinces and branch delegates said no to a third term and an overwhelming yes to Jacob Zuma."

Apparently it doesnt matter that he is in the process of being convicted of corruption. And was accused of rape.

And he is no better than Mbeki when it comes to staying home..

"Zuma was not at home to witness his successes, opting instead for an international "get to know me" visit to India, Los Angeles and London."

Already spending money on going overseas on holidays.

"Zuma may well be president when the event takes place in 2010, given that ANC policy conference delegates said it was preferable for the ANC president to also be the country's leader."

I fear for this country if Zuma becomes president. Im sure things will be fine for the first 4 years or until 2010, but when the world no longer has its eye on South Africa then thats when Zuma will become the BOB we have all been fearing.

I agree with Zim$'s 1st paragraph, however Zim$ has to acknowledge that he is not the average ANC voter.
The average ANC voter is just a puppet with very very little education about the actual goings ons in SA politics and the ANC.

They get told 2 things by their community leaders:
1) If you don't vote ANC Apartheid will come back.
2) (depending on what area/hostel they stay in) who to vote for.

That's why, with regards to point 2, we see TB or Zuma, battling to get the relevant area leaders on their sides.

I agree that Mbeki should not have a 3rd term as president of the ANC, the likely-hood is that he would serve a 3rd term as president of the Republic, which would mean having to change the constitution - and that's not a can of worms I would like to see opened.

Unfortunately Zuma is not exactly a great 2nd runner (perhaps the understatement of the year).
Zuma is all smiles up until the point someone disagrees with his opinions.
He has little scruples about doing or saying things which are outside of societies norm, and it's this behaviour which has a lot of investors and foreign official's ears pricked - he is viewed as being unaccountable and unanswerable for his actions, and a lot of people recognise these traits so prevalent in the continent of Africa.

This is not a question of "if" but more a question of "when." Zooma will be the next President of the ANC and South Africa unless Mbeki manages to bribe and corrupt his way out of it at the final vote i.e. promises of positions money etc -the usual African politics. When that happens you will see a further swing to the Left and the more hardline Communism of the ANC as opposed to Mbeki's softer approach at the moment. You need to accept that both are Communists tutored in Lenin,Marx and Stalin by their former Russian masters and both espouse politics reminiscent of the Cold War era. The economic future of South Africa depends on the US/West keeping a handle on your Economy but if Zooma aligns with the Chinese/Russians then kiss your Country goodbye. The corruption/rape charges were little more than a political set up by Mbeki but maybe Zooma will respond with an investigation into the corrupt Arms Deal that saw Mbeki and his henchmen line their pockets.
This is the last peaceful chance for South Africa and in my opinion if Zooma does not get his day at the feeding trough the Country will erupt into a tribal conflict that may eventually lead to Civil War. South Africa is on the road to the next Zimbabwe and their is nothing you can do about it whilst you have the present cabal of corrupt criminals running it. Once Zooma is let loose watch him rob the place blind and your currency value go down the tubes.
Best you and the remaining civilised South Africans get out a.s.a.p and make a new life before it is too late.

The rate at which South Africa is deteriorating into Africa's next begging bowl state will sharply accelerate, other than that there will be no change other than a clamp down on media rights, human rights and a shift towards the ultra left rather than the extreme left where we now stand.
All of the ANC leadership consists of little more than a collection of terrorist kleptomaniacs and racists, so it matters little which of the thieves leads, the final result will be the same, only the time frame will differ.

As per the norm, I fail to find an answer to the given question in your posting, where do you address the issue of "what happens if Zuma actually becomes president"?

*Zim$*
"Liberal" in Australia is merely a relative term, they are all conservative, only the degree differs.

*Ayiza*
I must truly question your ability to reason and think rationally when you consider a man who has unprotected sex with HIV positive women and then believes that a shower will cure him of AIDS as a "conservative".

I’m not his fan either……it’s not over yet……like I said in the past, I will not support either Zuma or Mbeki at the conference…..I say no to Mbeki because I believe that the ANC president should be the country’s president….and we are not going to amend the country’s Constitution to allow Mbeki a third term…..not because he’s not a good leader but because we want to avoid presidents for life…….I’m not voting for Zuma because of the pending criminal charges against him……and the recent rape trial….I accept that he was acquitted but what was revealed there is bad for a person who should lead this country…….

Zuma is leading with almost 1000 votes but it’s not over yet……I still believe that none of them will be ANC president come end of Polokwane conference…..

***Edit***

Ok, Bull.......then he would be the president.....the world would not cave in.....nothing will really change......the ANC will still be in charge....Zuma or no Zuma

PS....I've seen that liberals are taking over in Australia.....

If he becomes president, then I reckon that corruption will blossom and rape will be accepted as normal. Run for your lives, Darkest Africa here we come !!!
