Of the two, I'd say Mark Twain. However, if you want a really interesting paper, how about:

1. Ernest Hemingway
2. C.S. Lewis
3. Emily Dickinson

Just a few suggestions!

They are both fascinating characters. There is a lot of controversy you could write about on William Shakespeare. Mark Twain/Samuel Clemens is pretty much one of my favorite authors, actually they both are. So it depends on what direction you want to take. Twain might be funnier and such with all his humor. Either way you will find tons of information on either.

What is most important is who do you like better.. because the one author you like, you will be able to make him or her more interesting and likewise would love to do research in the library and get relevant information..
You will accordingly feel more confident to do presentation and and comfortable to write about...
whichever one you decide... do put in lots of interesting quotations from that author's work and different stuff from the commonly known to make it more informative and interesting enough to listen through...
hope this helps..:-)
